Contain Yourself Australia

Contain Yourself Australia We have developed a system that can convert any shipping container into a tiny house. Safe, affordable, sustainable living. That's his gift to you.

Founder of Contain Yourself Australia, Sean McGilvray, has spent the last two years developing a system to modify second-hand containers into tiny houses. The DIY system is easily built, can be disassembled, moved and reused. Sean believes that everyone has the right to shelter, to be safe and secure. Sean wants to teach people how to create their own a safe, affordable home that's fully transport

able and reusable. Quick and easy to install, a CYA tiny house can be put together for emergency housing after natural disasters. It can be customised to build a sleek modern home or can be used as an office, an extra bedroom or granny flat. Sean calls it "floating infrastructure" - easy to put up, take down and relocate. SAFE - AFFORDABLE - SUSTAINABLE

Currently, CYA is crowd funding to teach people across the world how to use the DIY system. It will also give Sean the ability to further develop the system so that a home can be built in a weekend, by anyone, anywhere.

A walk through how I install an engineering approved system of external framing system all done off grid with a small generator and cordless tools, no welding and no specialist components. Everything I have used is available at your local hardware.
Very quick to construct and install.

Back on camera. It will take me a few goes but am attempting to explain clearly enough the method I have been developing for many years to convert a container.
I have tried and tested almost all of the " internet, YouTube " , container living theories, observed the constant same questions about how to " do it " and am now confident if people are interested to share.
No promises , just will try and it doesn't get any easier in my experience.

Old with new with old.
This is the old GP container I have been converting. I am a sucker for beautiful old building materials ( I will demolish old houses for materials) . You can't fake age well with new materials through people try .
I have used a low cube container as it can still be transported after adding the extra height in framing for roofline . The roofing structure ( everything above walls) is quickly and easily removed and reinstalled onsite .
The structure has been built to full BCA and engineering standards .
I will try to get a video done with a walk around and some explanation including how I have lined the inside.

One box clad framed , insulated and clad ready for removable roof for transportation. I will also make a couple of removable window awnings ( eye lashes) .
Box two framed and ready for insulation and cladding.
Both projects I am using as many recycled materials as possible. Both completed next week and to be used as bedroom/ office.

I will be doing a free education, teaching morning this Saturday the 26th of September from 9 till 1. Numbers are limited but so is my ability to organise.
Location is Bellingen and send me an email [email protected] . If I don't reply it means I have enough people . Sorry if I don't respond.
If it works I will do more.

Time to share the modification technique I use. I always promised myself to give away my ideas in the hope of helping others. This has been difficult when financial sh*t comes into play but I am ready now.
I have refined and developed this system since this video to include footing and pier connection processes that greatly reduce complexities with engineering certification. As well as alternative /complimentary connection methods for different styles of construction.
I believe deeply that a container can find its place on the affordable housing " stage" but to achieve this a system or methods must be created to alleviate the never ending repeated questions about the same issues with container construction. A system that works in harmony with existing supply chain , compliance ,engineering , engaged trades, energy efficiency, cost , planning and all other variables that exist in the construction industry.
I am unsure where or if my work will lead to anything but thanks for watching. enjoy
