Week 7 – "7 signs Jesus revealed in the book of John".

It’s real! The stories of Jesus of Nazareth are true! …. The stories of Jesus’ miracles from the past 6 weeks:

1. At the wedding in Cana, Jesus turned the water into w**e!
2. Jesus healed the dying man who was more than 20kms away, by the power of His Word! His words were, “Your son now lives.”!
3. Jesus healed the man who hadn’t walked for 38 years. Jesus said, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk!”
4. Jesus satisfied the appetites of at least 5000 with only a handful of barley loaves and a couple of fish!
5. Jesus walked on the Sea of Galilee, on top of the water! While his disciples were in a storm struggling with the oars against the wind and waves, Jesus made himself known to them and he calmed their fears.
6. Jesus miraculously healed a man who had been born blind. This man was interrogated with question after question about Jesus and his healing and in the end he said, “Whether Jesus is a sinner or not, I don’t know. But one thing I do know I was blind but now I see.”!

Week 7
Yesterday Roz shared about when in John chapter 11 Jesus brought his own close friend, Lazarus, back to life!

Lazarus’ sister, Mary, revealed such depth of relationship, “Lord, the one you love is sick!” When someone is really sick they want their loved ones close. Notice they don’t tell Jesus to come quickly. There is no direct request but an implied request because they know what he’s capable of.

Jesus tells them the sickness will not end in death, it will bring glory to God. (See V4) God’s intentions are always for us. Jesus loves Lazarus, and he had the ability to heal sickness but Jesus stays put for 2 days! It would be easy to jump to conclusions, maybe Jesus didn’t love him!

But Jesus was obedient to the will of the Father. He would not be hurried or be pushed into a particular course of action. Going to Lazarus meant putting his life in danger, and back in the path of those who wanted to kill him.

No matter how things appear in our lives, we don’t need to doubt Jesus’ timing and intentions. They can be trusted. They are motivated by love because God loves us!

When Jesus arrived to see the grieving sisters because Lazarus had died, he received harsh accusation, “Lord… if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” (V 21) - We’d do well to remember not to offer up our own harsh accusations.

We then capture Jesus’ humanity; Jesus was moved and troubled, and “Jesus wept.” (V35) - He empathises with our grief too.

Jesus was the resurrection and the life. He was preparing to face death himself. This was a costly sign but it brought glory to God. - Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead! (See story in separate video post.)

Jesus came proclaiming good news to the poor, freedom for the prisoners, sight for the blind, set free the oppressed. (See Luke 4:18)
Hope when hope is gone!
Light where the light is hidden!
Now we get to live and work and breathe and be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Week 6 – "7 signs Jesus revealed in the book of John".

Last Sunday Aux. Lt. Jackie Williams shared about when Jesus healed the man born blind, in John chapter 9.

One man’s story of how he was blind but now he can see:
“The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.” (V11)

The man then faced scepticism, people wondering was he actually blind before? And disbelief, asking his parents what the story was? We too are living in a time of scepticism and disbelief, a time untrustworthy news, deep fakes and relative truths. When God works in our life we may be misjudged too.

Even the disciples asked what the story was, asking Jesus, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” (V2)
Jesus is clear, it was simply a man born blind and one day, this blindness proves an opportunity for God to so show His works. - Jesus was doing the things that the promised Messiah would do, “healing the blind”.

What should be enough to believe?
- God, if you would only do …… then I would believe.
- If we could just see some of these miracles: heal that person, save that baby, stop that war.

Jesus went on to say that not everyone’s blindness would be healed (spiritual)….. Miracles don’t always speak for themselves. They can also be an opportunity not to see.

Faith will always involve wonder and mystery, things that can’t be proven. Keep walking with Jesus!

God can break through in the most unlikely places, for the most unlikely people, in unlikely spaces. - John Newton who was part of the slave trade before he was saved, wrote ‘Amazing Grace’!

Keep walking with Jesus!

Week 5 – "7 signs Jesus revealed in the book of John".

Last Sunday Majors Cherie & Chris Clarke shared about when Jesus walked on water, in John chapter 6.

Major Chris and his son gave us a lesson in what floats and sinks in water and why. Then Major Cherie shared the message.

What is your happy place? Perhaps a beach or your house, like Cherie? Does your place invoke peace? …..The same place can also be chaotic. Some days stormy, some days calm.

After feeding 5000+ people, Jesus said to gather up the leftovers and “Let nothing be wasted.” (12 Baskets full!) - Jesus didn’t want his miracle wasted. So, Jesus’ disciples were carrying the last miracle with them in their belles and in the baskets when they headed down to the boat!

Experienced fishermen, they row and row, without getting to check the BOM. Eventually exhausted and fed up in a dark storm, they are frightened.

Jesus had gone to his alone place on a hill. He had recently lost his loved cousin, John the baptist, and was likely in grief. …..He sees the disciples in their struggle from the hill, from his vantage point, and he walks out across the lake on the water. A literal miracle! - They think Jesus is a ghost.

When the disciples are overcome with fear, Peter says, “Lord, if it’s you tell me to come to you” (See Matt 14:28) which Jesus did. Peter walks out and Jesus reached out his hand to him. Peter then start to sink but Jesus catches him.

What is the bigger miracle?
That Jesus makes the wind die down or that he can make ordinary people walk on water?!!
Or that the boat is immediately transported to the shore on the other side is the lake?!

Jesus said to Peter,
“Why did you doubt?” When you’ve seen all these miracles?! …..When we hear others testimonies. Why do we still doubt?

Obedience does not mean smooth sailing, following Holy Spirit come with challenges but Jesus says, “Come to me, if you are weary…” (See Matt 11:28) …..Obedience and persistence in rough places are seen by God. We can’t rely on others for validation, but know Jesus sees you! He is ‘El Roi’ the God who sees. - You are seen and treasured by the Almighty!

We may not always recognise Christ in our Crisis. Do you want to let God into your boat? Perhaps God is about to do more than we think or imagine! (See Eph 3:20)
