GREAT OCEAN ROAD – Day 3 // We awoke early to take in the sunrise on the beach at Apollo Bay, which set us up perfectly for a day of exploring between Apollo Bay and Port Campbell.

The Apostles were looking very photogenic with the blue skies and shimmering water as a backdrop. A much different story to when we last visited 2010, amid pouring rain, power outages, gale force winds and floods.

GREAT OCEAN ROAD – Day 2 // Jumping in the car we drove from Torquay to Apollo Bay, stopping very frequently (every 5-15min) to play on the beach, check out a lookout, do a walk, eat some food or take some pics.

The frequent stopping and rotating where we sat in the car, helped keep the car sickness at bay. I can happily report – there was no vomiting on the Great Ocean Road (well from our family at least).

GREAT OCEAN ROAD - Day 1 // Over the Ekka long-weekend we jetted off to Victoria to explore the Great Ocean Road.

Snaking our way from Melbourne Airport, down the coast, we stopped off at Werribee Open Range Zoo, Geelong, Torquay, Lorne, Apollo Bay, Port Campbell and everything in between.

We hiked, spotted koalas, penguins, echidna’s and kangaroos, visited lighthouses, walked on beaches, watched the sun rise and set, and made lots of family memories.

The weather was surprisingly gorgeous, with blue skies and mild-ish temps (with the exception of rain on the last day).

A wonderful few days spent appreciating nature and the many wonderful destinations we have right here in Australia.

School holidays is the perfect time time to sneak in some day trips. The gorgeous winter weather in SE Qld makes exploring easy and a pleasure to do (no sweating).

💜 Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden - Gentle bushwalks among sprawling gardens and bushland. A lovely little cafe, art gallery and sculpture garden are also on site and worth a look.

🩵 Buderim Falls - A pleasant walk to the stunning Serentiy Falls. So peaceful and a great chance to rock hop and sit and watch the Falls.

💛 Coolum Beach - fish and chips by the beach, whale watching from the shore (didn't see any but saw sea turtles), watching the surfers, having a kick of the footy and bringing half a truckload of sand into the car (much to my disgust).

Aside from petrol and fish and chips, today's outing didn't cost a thing, just our time and thirst for exploring the great outdoors.

STANTHORPE - Day 3
Today was all about eating with a side of exercise. We started the day by stretching our legs clambering over the granite at Sentimental Rocks, which is a gentle walk, hidden in the heart of Stanthorpe.

You can't visit Stanthorpe without popping in and sampling the tasty treats at Sutton's Juice Factory. Sitting outside under the blue sky we devoured apple and caramel cheesecake, apple crumble and pecan pie - all which were divine. We even purchased a couple bottles of apple juice to take home.

Next stop the Granite Belt Christmas Tree Farm to say hi to the animals, peruse their recent renovations and wander among the Christmas trees.

One of the highlights of the day was enjoying a glass of wine, and a couple of the best wood-fired pizzas we have ever had at Balancing Heart Vineyard. We toured the vineyards, played cricket and badminton, sat in the sun (and shooed the flies) and even fed the resident animals.

We walked off our pizza down the road at Girraween National Park, where we once again climbed the granite rocks and saw heaps of kangaroos. Last stop was a viewing the town of Stanthorpe from Mount Marlay lookout.

STANTHORPE - Day 2
After a restful nights sleep and a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs, we jumped in the car and drove ~40km down the road into NSW to Bald Rock National Park.

It was here we conquered our fears and climbed the face of the largest granite rock in Australia (750m long x 500m wide x 1,277m above sea level). The views were phenomenal as the clouds parted and the skies turned blue.

A little further down the road we visited Boonoo Boonoo National Park before venturing on to Tenterfield. It was only fitting we listened to Peter Allen's 'Tenterfield Saddler' as we drove aorund town visiting the Cork Tree, the Tenterfield Saddler and Mount Mackenzie Lookout.

On the way home we stopped at Wallangarra on the NSW/Qld Border. This was where the railway lines changed gauge, so the goods had to be manually shifted from one train to another. The Station also had different balconies - bull nose on the Qld side and skillion on the NSW side.

Lots of fun was had jumping from one state to another, kicking the footy and speaking to some of the locals at the Driver Reviver Station about the nuances of living in a border town.

STANTHORPE - Day 1
School holidays means we were able to enjoy a few days away in the charming Granite Belt town of Stanthorpe. As regular visitors, we always find new things to experience as well as time for old faves.

We like to break up the drive with a stop at Summer Land Camels, where we pat, feed and take selfies with the camels. This time we enjoyed morning tea on the verandah, which was camel pie (we felt a little guilty when the camels were staring right at us as we ate), cappuccinos (we opted for standard cow’s milk), and delicious scones.

Jumping back in the car our next stop was Warwick where we enjoyed a roadside picnic for lunch, and a walk around the park.

After arriving in Stanthorpe and checking in, we headed to Quart Pot Creek for an afternoon walk, kick of the footy and stocking up of supplies, before returning to the cottage and lighting a fire to keep up toasty and warm (the temp dropped below 14, which is pretty cold for us Qlders).

🇦🇺 Day 36 - The FOUR Bs are home!!!

7 countries
7 flights
2 ferries
7 long distance trains
14 different beds (15 if you count the hospital bed in Doha)

We touched down just before 6pm last night and had a good flight, and an even better sleep in our own beds last night. The kids were also excited to receive their belated Santa sacks and birthday presents for Lewis.

Now, we unpack, sort out our purchases and tend to the very overgrown weeds and garden.

It has been a wonderful holiday, one we feel very privileged to have taken with our family. We hope you enjoyed following along.

🇶🇦 Day 35- This morning we packed for the last time and visted a few more places in Doha.
We saw the falcons and all the accessories you can buy for them in the falcon souq. We then visted the Qatar National Library (you know I love a library) before a quick bite to eat before heading to the airport early evening.
Doha airport is pretty cool with lots to see, including a lovely indoor rainforest/garden.
Homeward bound (just need to survive the 14hr flight). ✈️

🇶🇦 Day 34 - It's amazing how easy it is to explore a city when the weather is mild (low 20's) and sunny. No layers, no cold noses, no sweaty backs just pleasantness all round - my kind of weather.

We jumped on the Metro (so cheap and efficient) and discovered Lusail and West Bay. There is so much construction going on and so many unique and amazing buildings.

We finished the day at Angry Birds World. We tackled the high ropes course and everyone decided I should go first - hmm not sure that was the right decision. I was scared sh*tless and was terrified on the first, second, and subsequent obstacles, but...I did it, with lots of trembling, swearing and self-talk. The kids blitzed it, even though they could only just reach the ropes. Anyway, .mission complete - we did it and were all chuffed.

We even managed to catch up with some of the lovely hotel staff who helped out when Lewis was sick and taken to hospital last month.

🇩🇪 🇶🇦 Day 32 - Today we farewelled Europe and began our journey home. We enjoyed a very comfortable 5 hour flight from Munich to Doha, where we all managed to watch a few movies and mumma had a 'brief' snooze.

The two hour time difference and an hour to get from the plane, through customs and to our bags meant that by the time we arrived at our hotel it was night. We wandered over to Souk Wakif for dinner and ice cream before retiring for the night.

Tomorrow, we explore more of Doha.
