RAINY MOVING DAY? DON’T LET YOUR WHITE COUCH BECOME A MUDDY MASTERPIECE! ☔

We recently moved a lovely family in Kedron on one of those Brisbane days where the rain simply refused to take the hint and go away.
But these guys were READY.

Mattresses wrapped in plastic. Light-coloured couches covered. Old towels and mats waiting at the doors. Clear pathways for the team.
The result? Despite the rain, the move ran beautifully, the furniture stayed clean and dry, and nobody ended the day staring sadly at muddy footprints on a white couch!

Our simple rainy-day tip: grab plastic mattress and couch covers before moving day. You can pick them up from Bunnings for around $5—a tiny investment compared with having a mattress or couch professionally cleaned.

MOVING HOUSE TO HOUSE
Check for access issues such as overhanging trees, narrow driveways and parking restrictions. If street parking is limited, park your car in the required spot the day before. On narrow streets, check rubbish collection days, as bins and trucks can restrict access.

MOVING TO OR FROM AN APARTMENT
Book lifts and loading zones in advance. Check truck height restrictions, permitted moving hours and whether Saturday moves are allowed.

APARTMENT MOVES: THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE EVIL

Not all moves are created equal—and when apartments are involved, access can make the difference between a quick move and a very long day!

THE GOOD: The truck parks in a reserved loading zone close to the entrance, the lift is locked off exclusively for your move, and it’s a short, flat walk from your apartment to the truck. Beautiful. Efficient. Everyone is happy.

THE BAD: The loading zone is further away, there are ramps to navigate, underground car park passages, multiple glass security doors, long corridors or a small lift that means we can only move a few items at a time. Every extra metre, door and lift trip adds time.

THE EVIL: No reserved loading zone. A truck that cannot access the building due to height restrictions, requiring a smaller ferry vehicle. A lift the size of a peanut. Long walks through underground garages, ramps and corridors—and, just to make things interesting, sharing the lift with residents, cleaners and other removal companies!

This is where apartment moves can take significantly longer than moving the same amount of furniture from a house with direct truck access.

Our biggest advice? LOCK OFF THE LIFT AND RESERVE THE LOADING ZONE.

If your building allows it, book exclusive use of the lift for your moving window and make sure the loading zone is reserved for the removal truck. Sharing lifts and loading areas can cause substantial delays—and when removalists charge by the hour, those delays cost you money.

Also, tell us about access before moving day. Send photos, check truck height restrictions, measure small lifts and let us know about long corridors, stairs, ramps, security doors and underground access.

Do not underestimate the time required for an apartment move. A two-bedroom apartment can sometimes take longer than a much larger house simply because every item has to travel further and pass through more obstacles.

Good access saves time. Good planning saves money. And accurate information helps us send the right truck, the right team and allow enough time to complete your move properly.

When it comes to apartment moves, the furniture is often the easy part. Getting it from your front door to the truck is where the real adventure begins!
