P2-PXW is one of the oldest aircraft currently operated by Air Niugini. Although built in 1991, the Boeing 767-300ER remains well suited to Papua New Guinea’s international network because of its combination of range, passenger capacity and cargo capability.

Over its 35-year career it has had only three airline operators:

Scandinavian Airlines (1991-2003)
Icelandair (2004–2011)
Air Niugini (2011–present)

The aircraft is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW4060 turbofan engines and has built a reputation within Air Niugini as a dependable workhorse on medium- and long-haul routes. It has accumulated tens of thousands of flight hours over three decades of service and remains active today.

An interesting fact is that P2-PXW has spent more than 15 years with Air Niugini, making it one of the airline’s longest-serving wide-body aircraft. Many travellers between Brisbane and Port Moresby have likely flown on this particular 767 over the years.
