Fremantle prison, definitely worth a look. We did the tunnel tour with our tour guide, Simon, who was an absolute cracker!
You lock into the ladder system and descend approximately 20 metres below the Prison to explore a labyrinth of tunnels built by prisoners. There are original blast holes, bores, oil lamp recesses and artefacts from the days when working in the tunnels was hard labour for prisoners.
You walk the dry sections of the tunnels then board replica convict punts to explore the submerged passageways of crystal clear water. This system provided water to Fremantle for three decades. Unfortunately you can’t take phones down for photos.
