Famous for dairy products, chainsaw murders, medical malpractice and pa******le cheese barons, Bega is a depressing little dump where dreams go to curdle. The town’s name is derived from a local Aboriginal word meaning ‘big camping ground’, a strange name considering most normal people wouldn’t willingly camp in a paddock full of cow s**t. On the other hand, the name is strangely appropriate given all the homeless crack-addled beggars in Bega.

Bega’s main attraction is a cheese museum – a homage to fromage. It’s fair to say that a visit is not a gouda idea, in fact it’s edam shame that the town couldn’t come up with a butter idea. Fondue yourself a favour and give it a miss. The only other point of ‘interest’ is a collection of council-approved cow murals, an udderly moodiocre spectacle.

When Began bogans aren’t furiously tugging on cattle ti***es to make cheese, they’re doing similar things for recreational reasons. A Bega couple was recently convicted for buggering a pony, which shows the lengths some people will go to escape boredom when the only alternatives are watching grass grow or going to a cheese museum.

Remember, kids: Bega is not better.

🚧JERVIS BAY FLYOVER UPDATE!
Eleven super-T girders, which will form the deck of the new bridge over Jervis Bay Road, will be delivered to the work site and lifted into position over five nights, Monday 13th – Thursday 16th October and Sunday 19th October between 6pm and 7am
Due to oversize travel restrictions, delivery and installation of the girders will be completed outside standard working hours.
Road resurfacing night work will also take place on the Princes Highway on October 13, 15, 16 and 19 and on Jervis Bay Road on October 22 and 23.
During the works, there will be temporary traffic changes and detours in place and drivers are advised to allow an extra 15 minutes' travel time.
🚘This is an exciting milestone for this significant local road project that I'm so proud to have supported with $100 million in federal funding.
