Airport Development Group acknowledges with great respect the passing of Christine Davy MBE, earlier this month. A remarkable Australian aviator, Olympian, and trailblazer whose pioneering spirit helped shape aviation in the Northern Territory.

After representing Australia at the 1956 and 1960 Winter Olympic Games, Christine embarked on an extraordinary aviation career, making Central Australia and the Northern Territory her home. Flying with Connellan Airways (later Connair) from Alice Springs, she broke barriers in what was then a male-dominated profession.

Christine achieved several historic firsts, including becoming the first Australian woman to hold a First-Class Air Transport Pilot's Licence and the first woman in Australia to be employed as a pilot by a passenger airline.

Her outstanding contribution to civil aviation was recognised with the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) and, in 2023, her induction into the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame.

Her citation for the Hall of Fame perhaps says it best: "Christine Davy MBE has dedicated her life to a career in aviation with an unwavering focus and in a quiet, unassuming, but determined manner. A remarkable aviator."

At Airport Development Group, we recognise Christine's innovation, resilience, and tenacity. Her legacy extends far beyond the cockpit, she inspired generations of women to pursue careers in aviation and demonstrated that determination and excellence know no boundaries.

Her story continues to inspire visitors at the Central Australian Aviation Museum, in Alice Springs where her remarkable journey is proudly on display.

We extend our sincere condolences to Christine's family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.

Vale, Christine Davy MBE. Your legacy will continue to soar.
