Murin Board Members Attend Heart of Australia - Heart 8 Launch

Murin Board Members this week attended the launch of Heart of Australia's Heart 8, a new mobile healthcare truck that will deliver Australia's National Lung Cancer Screening Program to remote communities across the Top End.

The truck is equipped with a CT scanner, X-ray and lung function testing equipment, bringing specialist lung screening and diagnostic services closer to people living in remote communities.

Murin will transport the Heart 8 truck and supporting equipment by barge to Maningrida, Milingimbi, Galiwin'ku, Alyangula, Wurrumiyanga and Wadeye.

This project complements Murin's regular weekly barge service to Wadeye and reflects the growing demand for Murin to deliver specialised barge projects across Northern Australia. As a Thamarrurr-owned organisation, income from these services is reinvested into projects and services that benefit Thamarrurr communities.

Murin Freight is Now Servicing Peppimenarti and Palumpa

Murin is now running weekly road freight services to Peppimenarti and Palumpa, giving businesses, organisations and community members a regular dry season freight service between Darwin and the broader Thamarrurr region.

This service complements Murin's weekly barge service to Wadeye and helps strengthen a locally owned freight network, with profits reinvested into services and projects that benefit communities across the Thamarrurr region.

Murin Association hosted another successful Board Meeting in Wadeye this week, with Executive Board Members receiving updates on operations across the Association's Air and Bus Services, Freight Services, Civil Works and Homelands Services programs.

Directors also discussed the diversification of Murin's investments and priorities for the year as the region begins to open up following a significant Wet Season.

With a busy Dry Season ahead, Murin remains focused on ensuring passenger and freight services across the region remain strong and reliable, delivering projects that improve access to the regions Homelands, and creating opportunities for Thamarrurr residents.

Wadeye Barge Service Returns – Effective 20 February 2026

Murin Association is pleased to confirm the return of our Wadeye barge service, supporting the continued and reliable movement of essential freight to Thamarrurr and Daly communities.

Freight receival is now open at Shed 2, 25 Muramats Road, East Arm, with updated drop-off times in place for dry and chilled/frozen freight. Freight back loading to Darwin can also be accommodated by contacting our Freight Operations team.

We extend our thanks to community stakeholders and businesses who have supported the return of this important service. This milestone reflects the strength of Aboriginal-owned businesses delivering local services for local communities.
