A Hispacold Update: We received a call from Steve Heanes, Managing Director of Irizar Asia Pacific only minutes after our last post about shaft seal issues. To give full credit, he never hid from the problem and openly discussed the issues they were facing since changing suppliers for their shaft seals. We learnt they were already up to Version 5 of seals trying to solve the problem and furthermore offered their after-sales technical support and the possibility of supplying their latest seal to test. Honestly, to reach out to a nobody bus company who had never even bought an Irizar new, we do actually respect that a lot.
The first broken Hispacold received a new shaft seal, drier, 4kg of gas and a 12 monthly service which cost $2800. The 2nd Hispacold needed 3x Condensor Fans, 3x Speed Controllers, 2x Condensor Fan covers, a new low pressure switch, a new shrader valve and received a 12 monthly service which cost $3800. Realistically, this was just normal wear and tear plus damage from tree strikes. Irizar have the compressor mount and fitting kit to be able to retrofit a Valeo TM65, and this will be our next step if we continue to have compressor problems.
From our experience, the Irizar body is ahead of the Chinese builds, but still behind the Aussie builds. Where they stand out though is in their after-sales support. Either way they can't be too bad as we've got another coming from WA. Rest assured it will not stay in that disgusting orange!
