Has social media made travel better... or more overwhelming?

I think it's done both.

Travellers have never had so much inspiration... or so much FOMO.
Instagram, TikTok, Facebook groups, Google, Reddit, AI... planning a holiday can feel like a full-time job! Suddenly there are hundreds of opinions, "must-do" experiences and pressure to optimise every moment.

The result? People often come home needing a holiday from their holiday!

One of the biggest parts of my job isn't booking travel—it's filtering the noise.
Helping clients work out what's genuinely worth doing, what's not, and creating an itinerary that suits them rather than trying to tick every box.

Sometimes the best trips aren't the ones that fit in the most.
They're the ones that leave room to breathe... and room for those unexpected, magical moments that become the stories you'll tell for years to come.

This ABC story is a timely reminder that travel isn't just about finding the cheapest price.

It's also about understanding who you're booking with, where your money is going, and what protections are in place if something unexpected happens.

When booking online, that information isn't always easy to find or understand.

One of the benefits of working with a travel advisor is having someone who can explain:
✈️ Who is holding your money
✈️ When suppliers are paid
✈️ What booking conditions apply
✈️ What travel insurance may or may not cover
✈️ What happens if plans change

For Mission to Travel clients, funds are generally either held in trust or paid directly to the relevant travel supplier. Client funds are not used to fund the day-to-day running of my business, and if a supplier issues a refund, those funds are passed on to the client as soon as they are received.

How much time is too much time on holiday? 🤔

Most people assume longer is always better.

This week I was designing a wellness itinerary for a group who originally wanted a month away. Once I started costing the trip, it became clear there would be a big trade-off between the length of the holiday, the standard of accommodation and the level of wellness inclusions.

Rather than stretching the budget across a full month, I recommended a shorter itinerary with fewer hotel changes, stronger wellness programs and a higher calibre of accommodation.

Sometimes the best holiday isn't the longest one.

Sometimes it's the one that gives you enough time to truly relax, while still enjoying the experiences and comforts that make the journey special.

That's where a good travel advisor can make all the difference.

Penelope and Neil have just returned from an extraordinary 8-week journey through Antarctica, Rio Carnivale, Peru, the Ica Valley and Chile’s Atacama Desert.

Trips like this don’t come together overnight. This one was nearly two years in the planning, coordinating expedition schedules, Carnivale dates, internal flights, remote desert lodges and a lot of moving parts along the way.
