Do I burn my toothbrush now?

I climbed up to a lookout on Nacula Island today and found myself thinking in equal parts about the view and the feeling.

Life out here is obviously very different from life back home. But I think the biggest difference isn’t the beaches or the scenery.

It’s the lack of noise.

And not just the actual noise (there’s so much silence here and I love it). But also the constant feeling that your attention is being pulled somewhere else.

Maybe that’s why people fall in love with island life?

It’s Sunday on Nacula Island, so I figured… why not go check out a local church service?

I didn’t understand basically anything that was said during the service. But that doesn’t really matter. It’s more about just experiencing the singing and the sense of community. It’s nice to see a little piece of everyday life here in Fiji, whether you’re religious or not.

I always think that travel is at its best when it gives you a glimpse into how people actually live.

Woke up to this sunrise on Nacula Island this morning.

I know people throw around the word paradise a lot, but mornings like this make a pretty compelling argument.

I climbed up into the hills of Nacula Island today and just kept stopping every few minutes to look around.

Eveything here looks postcard perfect. It almost doesn’t quite look real.

I think Fiji gets associated with resorts and beaches so much that people forget just how beautiful the islands themselves are. It’s definitely not a bad place to spend an afternoon.

I took the Yasawa Flyer out to Nacula Island today and immediately I can see why why the Yasawa Islands are so famous.

This is definitely the Fiji people picture when they book the flight. (At least, this is what I’ve been picturing!)

Now I need to figure out what life is actually like out here beyond the postcard version.

Any Yasawa recommendations?

Trying very hard to remember what this version of life feels like while I’m still inside it.

I know sunsets are everywhere when you travel. And it’s hard to have a bad one. But Fiji sunsets see feeling particularly stunning right now.

Maybe it’s just the colours, or maybe its because I’m on an island. But the past couple evenings have been absolutely magical.

Not a bad way to end the day!

Today we had absolutely no plans. Which always ends up being my favourite plans.

My friend Nanna from Denmark and I just started driving north of Nadi and ended up wandering around the market in Lautoka. Which ended up being the highlight of the day.

People at the market were super friendly and chatty, and I think were a little confused as to why we were there 😅

Plenty of my favourite travel moments happen when there’s no optimization. There’s just a chaotic willingness to go with the flow.

I’ve officially landed in Fiji 🇫🇯

Coming here I’ve got a fairly specific picture in my head of what Fiji is supposed to be. I know it’s world famous for its beaches, resorts, tropical paradise vibes, and being a honeymoon destination. But I’m hoping to understand what Fiji actually feels like beyond that version.

I want to know the food, culture, local experiences, places tourists miss, things I absolutely shouldn’t leave without doing… send me recommendations please👇
