Remembrance Day is signalled at Garroorigang by the countless flanders poppies which appear without fail in the garden beds and even the paddock at this time every year and have done so for as long as we can remember. Self sown, they ask for nothing other than that we stop, reflect and remember all those who gave their lives for their country. Our mother's brother, Cyrus Johnson, was one of them, killed in action at Ypres on 3 March 1918. On a particularly poignant and perhaps prophetic note, he had sent home to the family a short time before he was killed a hand painted french silk cushion cover with the scene of the market place in Ypres in flames. With no known grave other than his name on the Menin Gate and the War Memorial to mark his sacrifice, the cover Cyrie chose and what it represents will always be present in the life and memories of the family. Cyrie, along with all the others, gone but never forgotten.

Remembrance Day -The Poppies Never Forget-
Every year at this time, without fail, thousands of Flanders poppies bloom in the gardens at Garroorigang - unbidden and silent reminders of the sacrifice made by so many. No soil is too humble for them, no competition too strong. They ensure we never forget.

Garroorigang Roses. The abundant rain and warm days has resulted in the gardens at Garroorigang being filled with the roses in full bloom.
