We welcomed a couple of new members to the with their lovely 19ft brand new Dreamhaven Caravans

The van is lovely, but, the tow vehicle is more interesting.

It’s the first fully electric vehicle we’ve had towing a full sized caravan.

The Hyundai, specifically the Hyundai IONIQ 9, features a large high-voltage battery pack offering approx 500 kms of driving range per charge.

The dual-motor all-wheel drive produces 314kW and has a maximum braked towing capacity of up to 2,500 kg. It’s producing as much or more than some V8’s.

It’s no secret that range is reduced when towing, but, this vehicle still provided a respectable 200 - 250km range with the van hooked up. Another respectable statistic is the ultra-fast DC fast charging, capable of replenishing from 10% to 80% in roughly 24 minutes under optimal conditions…..long enough for a loo break and to get a coffee.

Multiple tasks on the job list for this Malibu Caravans…

✅ hatch - remove, reseal & replace
✅ Seal j-mould
✅ Install extra solar panels

A small amount of ceiling damage had already occured due to leaking hatch, but, now all properly sealed and no longer leaking.

The whole roof checked and added sealant applied on solar panel brackets and pe*******ons.

Additional solar panels and cables spliced into existing system as part of an impending solar upgrade. Solar controller next and batteries if required.

As panels and cables have been retrofitted…..cables and conduit are installed externally as it’s not possible to install in the roof cavity economically. Silicon “capsules” applied around cables & conduit…. don’t muck around when it comes to keeping water out of vans.

Unfortunately, the owner of this van lost their awning in a sudden wind storm and it ripped it off the van.

Luckily, no other damage and a new awning now installed, flap kit supplied, and, the minute the wind whips up to much in future….it’ll get rolled in. 😉

This float has come into the workshop for a list of jobs including sealing the roof to stop water leaks.

First order of the day for was to get the roof clean so that silicon will actually stick to it.

They put in a huge amount of work to get years of grime, tree sap & resin and lichen off…..the Team have done a fabulous job.

It’s been set up to be a mobile bar to take around markets and events.

We fabricated and welded new structure to the underside to allow fitting of a water supply tank and a grey water tank. The owner will now sort out some plumbing and pipe everything up.

The floats “running gear” also needed some attention….the wheels came off and all bearings were cleaned and repacked with fresh grease.

Hydraulic brake system was full of water as the master cylinder cap had been missing and rain had gotten in. Now flushed, bled & working again.

installed an aircon unit to Bill & Julie’s custom built Motorhome.

He fabricated an all steel framed & insulated body that’s been fitted out with full kitchen, bathroom and a queen size bed.

Once the roof pe*******on was made, some fabrication in the workshop to make up a steel frame to carry the weight of the aircon so it doesn’t cause the roof to sag.

Wiring done, remote fixed to the wall and it’s now heating and cooling them as they travel.

This Lifestyle Iconn Camper came into the workshop to have a battery upgrade and an inverter fitted.

Battery holder cut, welded & modified to hold the larger capacity battery and further wiring and mods required to fit the owner’s chosen Renogy inverter.
