* YVR Commences Rebuild of Two Bridges at Healesville *

YVR is excited to bring you news of one of our current projects, which has just kicked off. We’re rebuilding two bridges at Healesville, which are located between the Watts River and the level crossing at Healesville-Kinglake Rd. We know these as bridge 30 and bridge 31. Both these bridges are overflow bridges, they exist to allow water past the embankment the railway is built on, when the Watts River floods.

Both bridges were at the end of their life, so we’re going to reconstruct them in the same style as most of the other bridges we have reconstructed between Yarra Glen and Healesville. This will involve installing concrete foundations, galvanised steel piers and a recycled rail deck. This construction style brings significant benefit to us, it gives us a bridge that allows us to run any rollingstock we want, it has very low maintenance needs and adds fire resistance.

A reminder that these are active construction sites with no public access; and as per any other time, please stay out of the rail corridor.

If you’re keen to help with the next step, rebuilding the bridges, do get in touch. Many hands make (somewhat) light work! For those keen to know when we’ll be running passenger trains again, we’ll post on our social media and website when we have a date.

It's Rail Safety Week this week (10-16 August) and a great reminder to stay safe around trains. Trains can come at any time of day or night, including on the Yarra Valley Railway, and they can't stop quickly. Always obey level crossing signs and signals, to keep everyone safe.

Yarra Valley Railway is currently not operating regular passenger train services.
However, it is important to note that we remain an active railway, and operations continue as part of our reconstruction and restoration program of the railway track between Yarra Glen and Healesville.

Railway track can be a dangerous place. You can be hit by trains and works vehicles which cannot stop quickly, and walking along the track can lead to slips, trips and serious injury. It is illegal to trespass on rail corridors, including those on heritage railways. The rail corridor is for authorised personnel only.

For those keen to know when we’ll be running passenger trains again, we’ll post on our social media and website when we have a date, and works updates will be coming in the near future. If you’re keen to volunteer, do get in touch! Thank you.

Yarra Valley Railway is currently not operating regular passenger train services.
However, it is important to note that we remain an active railway, and operations continue as part of our reconstruction and restoration program of the railway track between Yarra Glen and Healesville.

Always remember to stay safe around level crossings!

Some of our crossings have stop signs - remember to stop and look for trains and vehicles travelling down the track. We can run vehicles at any time especially in conjunction with our reconstruction work.

Other crossings on YVR have flashing lights and boom barriers - if the red lights are flashing this is your signal to stop, for the safety of you and our team.

For those keen to know when we’ll be running passenger trains again, we’ll post on our social media and website when we have a date, and works updates will be coming in the near future. If you’re keen to volunteer, do get in touch! Thank you.

One may be forgiven for thinking that volunteering at our railway is just on the track or in the workshop or on a train, but wait, there’s more! Along with so many other roles, we have a wonderful volunteer buildings and gardens crew, often seen working their magic at Yarra Glen station, who recently have been spending some time sprucing up Healesville station.

We are particularly proud of the recent installation of these Healesville station signs. They’ve been placed as close as possible to where once upon a time signs stood many years ago, to add even more of a historical ambience to our very historical station. Thank you team!
