The data on where Aussies are relocating might surprise you.

If you’re tossing up a move within Australia, it’s handy to know where people are heading these days.

Queensland’s been the big winner lately, with over 16,500 more people moving in than out in the year to December 2025.

Western Australia’s also on the up, adding just over 10,400 people, its fastest growth rate in the country.

On the flip side, New South Wales saw the biggest drop, with more than 21,000 people heading elsewhere. Victoria, South Australia, Tassie, the NT, and the ACT all saw more people leaving than arriving too.

Of course, every state’s got something to offer. This just gives you a feel for where the momentum is right now. Whether you’re after a change of pace, better value, or new opportunities, knowing the trends can help you plan ahead with a bit more confidence.

"I have more paperwork than my paw-rent does." 🐾

Turns out getting to Australia isn't as simple as hopping in a seat next to your favorite person. Every country does this a little differently, but the shape is always the same: a health certificate, a permit, the trip, then quarantine.

A few things worth knowing early:

📋 Most pets need to start the process at least 6-8 months from start to finish. This isn't a last-minute booking.
✅ You'll almost certainly need a permit, and incomplete paperwork means delays, not approval.
🏠 Every pet quarantines on arrival, usually 10 to 30 days in Melbourne, sometimes longer if there's an issue.
⏳ The permit itself can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to come through.
🐕 A small number of dog breeds aren't allowed into Australia at all, and pets valued over $1,000 come with extra paperwork and fees on top.

None of this means it can't be done. It just means it takes planning, and starting early makes all the difference.

Six months ago I was still googling "how to move overseas."

📦 Your origin agent is the crew here in Australia, sorting out the packing, export paperwork, and getting your shipment ready to leave.

🧭 A freight forwarder coordinates the overall move and books the cargo space, often acting as your main point of contact throughout. Sometimes that's the same company as your origin or destination agent.

🚢 The shipping line or airline handles the physical journey, getting your belongings across the ocean or through the air.

FCL or groupage? It's one of the first decisions you'll make when booking an international move, and it affects your cost, your timeline, and what to expect along the way. 🚢

📦 FCL (Full Container Load) - your container is yours alone. Nothing else goes in it, it's sealed once packed, and once your booking is confirmed with the shipping line, sailing and arrival dates can be locked in.

📦 Groupage (shared container) - your goods travel alongside other customers' shipments heading to the same destination. It's a more cost-effective option, but the container only departs once enough volume has been consolidated. That means your quoted transit time is an estimate based on shipping line availability and how quickly that container fills, not a fixed date.

⚠️ Here's the part that catches people out: the volume you declare when booking matters. If your final shipment ends up larger than what was estimated at your pre-move assessment, it may not fit in the container it was originally allocated to, and gets moved to the next available one. Getting your item count and cubic metreage as accurate as possible upfront helps keep your shipment on the timeline you're expecting.

✅ Neither option is better across the board. It depends on your volume, your budget, and whether you need a fixed delivery date. Our team will walk you through both before you book, so there are no surprises once your goods are on the water.
