Shipping delays are one of the most common and most costly problems Australian importers and exporters face. And most of the time they are preventable.

At GTL we stay ahead of the issues that cause delays before they become your problem. That means securing vessel space early, choosing the right routes and making sure customs documentation is handled correctly the first time.

Because a delay at the port does not stay at the port. It hits your production schedule, your customer relationships and your bottom line.
If your freight is not moving the way it should, let's talk.

International shipping involves far more than simply booking cargo onto a vessel.

There are customs requirements, shipping schedules, port handling, documentation, tariffs and constant coordination across multiple parties.

Even experienced importers can run into costly delays and unnecessary stress trying to manage it all alone.

That’s where a freight forwarder makes a difference.

At GTL, we help businesses navigate the entire logistics process and keep freight moving efficiently from origin through to final delivery.

Because the right logistics partner doesn’t just move cargo - they help remove the pressure and complexity from your supply chain.

Three weeks.
That’s how long a new client waited before finding out their shipment had been held at customs.

The frustrating part was the issue could have been sorted much earlier... but nobody had properly communicated what was happening.
This is one of the most common and most avoidable problems we see in freight.

A shipment stalls. A flag gets raised somewhere in the process. And the importer is the last to know.

By the time they find out, the damage is already done.

Production timelines missed.
Customers let down.
Costs nobody planned for.

We stay across every movement so if something changes, our clients hear it from us first... not weeks later.
That’s not a premium service.
That’s just how freight forwarding should work.

Importing involves more moving parts than most people realise.
Booking carriers. Securing space. Coordinating documentation. Managing handovers. Tracking every stage.

For new importers, it can feel overwhelming quickly. But it shouldn’t.

With the right support, you’re not chasing updates or second guessing the process. You have clear communication, structure and a team managing everything behind the scenes.

That’s where the difference is.

At GTL, we handle the detail so you can focus on your business, not your freight.
If you’re importing and want it done properly from the start, get in touch.

The difference between a smooth shipment and a stressful one is usually decided at the start.

Before anything is booked, experienced freight forwarders are already working through the detail.

What’s being shipped.
Where it’s coming from.
Packaging, dimensions, timelines.
Documentation requirements.
Potential risks at each stage.

It might feel like a lot of questions early on… But that’s exactly what prevents delays, added costs and last-minute issues later.
When the groundwork is done properly, everything that follows runs smoother.

At GTL, we take the time upfront to understand every detail so your shipment moves the way it should.

If you’re planning an import and want it handled properly from the beginning, get in touch.

Choosing a freight provider based on price alone is something we see all the time and it rarely plays out the way businesses expect.

On paper, a cheaper quote can look like a smart decision. But what’s often missing is everything that happens once your shipment is in motion. That’s where the real difference shows, in how delays are handled, how communication is managed and who actually takes ownership when something shifts.

Over time, those gaps turn into extra costs, lost time and unnecessary pressure on your business.

Freight isn’t just about getting from A to B. It’s about how well it’s managed when it matters.

If you’re relying on price alone, it might be time to take a closer look at your current setup.

I’m always here for a conversation.

A quick market update from the team at GTL.
We’re continuing to see major pressure across global shipping networks, particularly throughout the China–Australia trade lane.
Blank sailings throughout April and May have tightened capacity significantly, with ports like Shanghai and Ningbo already heavily booked in advance. Shipping lines are continuing to push rates higher heading into the second half of May, and space across many carriers remains extremely tight.

Globally, the ongoing US–Iran conflict is also placing additional pressure on vessel networks, particularly throughout the Middle East. If conditions stabilise and the region fully reopens over the coming months, we expect a backlog of cargo to place even more strain on global capacity.

Put simply… this isn’t behaving like a typical market.
Normally we would expect June to soften slightly heading into EOFY, however current conditions suggest rates are likely to remain firm, with further increases possible if space continues tightening.

Our advice at the moment is simple: book as early as possible.

Some carriers are now requiring bookings close to two weeks prior to ETD, and waiting too long could limit options significantly.

As always, the GTL team is monitoring the market closely and keeping our clients informed as conditions evolve.

Furniture imports come with more than just freight.

Delicate materials, high-value pieces, global sourcing and tight delivery windows all add layers of complexity that need to be managed properly.

With over 27 years of experience, GTL works closely with furniture importers to ensure shipments are handled with care, coordinated end to end and supported by clear communication at every stage.
When your products, timelines and reputation matter, experience isn’t optional… it’s essential!

If you’re in the furniture industry and want a logistics partner who understands the detail behind every shipment, we’re here to help.

I understand that changing freight providers isn’t something most businesses take lightly. There’s history involved, established processes and a level of trust that takes time to build.

That’s why I’m not here to tell you to move your freight to us tomorrow. But if you’re importing or exporting and would simply value a second opinion, I’m always happy to review a shipment and give you honest, commercial feedback.

I’ve seen how small inefficiencies can quietly impact a business over time. Sometimes it just takes an experienced set of eyes to highlight opportunities or confirm that you’re already on the right track.

If that kind of conversation would be helpful, feel free to reach out.
