"Children offer pure honesty and endless energy. No two days are the same."
That's how Julie describes driving school buses with CDC. She sees the role as being a safe anchor for her students.
"A calm face they see every day, listening to the stories they tell about life. Also telling me of their achievements, big or small."
It starts with a calm chat about a few bus rules — use the rubbish bins to keep the bus clean, everyone has a seat, no bullying. Her goal? "To ensure all students are welcome and happy on the bus."
And it's returned to her every day. As they enter the bus, they say 'Hi Jules', and as they leave the bus, they say 'thank you for driving us'."
Julie also values what the job gives her beyond the wheel — split shifts and time in the middle of the day for other things — and the people she works with.
"What other job offers this enjoyment, seeing all kids grow and succeed? We are not just bus drivers — we care."
Julie is one of the faces of our campaign. Behind the wheel of every bus is a driver like Julie, who brings their heart to their role and a commitment to the people they transport.
