AIRCRAFT CRASH | Lake Macquarie - Marmong Point

FINAL UPDATE: Booms have been set up around the aircraft, which remains partially submerged just off the marina. No persons transported to hospital. Salvage operation to be organised by owner.

UPDATE: Confirmed amphibious gyrocopter has crashed upon take off. Aircraft has now been towed into the marina. Hazmat to assess for fuel leakage. Both occupants now being assessed by NSW Ambulance however at this stage no serious injuries have been reported.

INITIAL REPORT:
Emergency services are on scene at Marmong Point on Lake Macquarie after reports of a light aircraft crash into the water.

Two occupants on board are believed to be ok. Aircraft is currently being towed into shore.

Hazmat also to attend.

Development of alternative fuel sources in aviation is progressing quickly and the first operators to benefit from this technology will be airlines flying smaller aircraft on short hops - you know, like Lake Macquarie to Sydney!

This technology could be flying in Australia by 2030 and its no longer a matter of IF this will happen but rather WHEN. Some designs use conventional aircraft that are retro fitted, others are new concepts.

Aeropelican carried 9 different colour schemes between 1971 - 2003 with services initially being operated by the Cessna 402 before transitioning to the much loved Twin Otter….
