Global container shipping volumes reached a record 17.46 million twenty-foot equivalent units in August, while freight pricing climbed to its highest level in more than two years, according to Container Trades Statistics.

The figures show continued growth in container trade despite elevated fuel prices, disruption in the Arabian Gulf, Panama Canal constraints and changing tariff conditions.

Victoria has released its new Rail Freight Plan 2026–2036, setting out a 10-year roadmap to strengthen the state’s freight rail network, increase capacity and reliability, support regional freight and shift more goods from road to rail. With freight volumes expected to almost double by 2050, the plan includes continued investment in regional rail infrastructure, intermodal terminals and connections to the Port of Melbourne - creating opportunities for more efficient, resilient and sustainable freight supply chains across Victoria and beyond.

This year the shipping container turned 70 years old! 7 decades on and it remains at the heart of global freight.

At JJ Lawson, we play a part in the humble shipping containers journey. Whether freight has travelled across the country or arrived from the other side of the world, it still needs to get where it's going.

The technology may change. The trucks may change. The way we track and manage freight will certainly continue to change.

Every kilometre counts: how better roads are keeping Australia moving.

A further 27-kilometre section of the Plenty Highway in central Australia has been sealed, improving access for remote communities and improving freight reliability through remote Australia. It’s a great example of how seemingly small infrastructure projects can make a huge difference to communities, agriculture and the movement of goods.

A very special moment when Greg Florimo and Barry Glasgow stopped by to see Jim and present him with a Perth Bears 2027 Home Jersey. Jim was very proud to see the red & black hoops and pull on the jersey that he thought for many years would never happen. Great to catch up with the Old Bears too - thanks legends!
