Happy When I'm Hiking

Happy When I'm Hiking We are a 'happy' hiking community that seeks to be inclusive, diverse and fun, promoting a healthy lifestyle in nature. Email us for details.

Happy When I'm Hiking© is a club that offers varying levels of hiking experiences for all fitness levels. Each one could require different skills or abilities with the ultimate goal of having a fun and enjoyable experience. We see this meetup as an opportunity to welcome all walkers and hikers that share a love of the great outdoors. We consider hiking a great way to combine exercise and meet like

-minded people who like a bit of a challenge. The volunteer event hosts exercise utmost duty of care and responsibility towards all hikers. How strenuous and how much you are willing to push yourself on a hike is different for everyone and one of the main reasons we try to mix up the hikes offered. As for the pace, the general rule of thumb is 4-5 kilometers an hour (slower on rough territory). While we may sometimes push the group to pick up the pace, we do like to take in the surroundings as well as enjoy the company of the great people who love a challenge! Recently, we've added "Mindful Hiking" and "Shinrin Yoku" to the groups activities. If you like our approach to hiking, then please join us in the adventure!

Movement in an uninspiring environment is definitely better than no movement at all, but studies indicate that moving in nature puts us in our happiest state. Over the last decade, physicians have increasingly stumped for “green exercise,” or any sort of physical activity that takes place in a natural environment.

Good advice.

Thirst hits fast, but heat stress hits harder — dehydration can set in quietly and quickly.

In Australian conditions, water planning is often the first system to fail. Don’t guess how much to carry.

Use this hydration calculator to determine your needs based on the conditions, temperature, terrain, pack weight, and how much you generally drink.

The “3 Day Effect” is the pattern a lot of people notice after about 72 hours in nature, especially when they are also off screens. The mind gets quieter, sleep deepens, and your stress and anxiety response stops acting like a smoke alarm with a low battery.

Have you had a hiking experience like this?

The “3 Day Effect” is the pattern a lot of people notice after about 72 hours in nature, especially when they are also off screens. The mind gets quieter, sleep deepens, and your stress and anxiety melts away.
