Today we placed the final retaining wall rail on the track side of the Hazelgrove Platform. Works are progressing well with coping timbers soon to be put in place

Edit. A member asked the question "when was the last time a new platform was built in rural NSW?"
Perhaps someone out there knows.

Yesterday saw the removal of a VERY large radiata pine just south of Borg's gate 6.
This pine has been a headache for a long time and had to go being very close to the track as well as lifting the track.
Now that it has been removed we can concentrate on getting the track alignment back to how it should be.
Thanks go to Agile Arbor Tree Services in Kelso for a very professional job.
As a bonus we took delivery of all the mulch from the tree to use at Hazelgrove for landscaping purposes.

HS 36 Update
Most time spent these last two months was on the continued refurbishment of the east frame section between compartments B36 to C36 including the cutting out of rot and splicing in of new timbers, including a lot of work around the bottoms of the drop light frames where they had split, rotted and come away. Drilling and dowelling of all old nail and screw holes. Sill drainage was corrected while rusted and wasted knee braces were removed. Rot was removed from the B36 east door frame striker area new timbers were spliced in. All frame elements received a bitumen coat. Installed U shaped under vent panels. Installed all trims in this section. This section has now been undercoated by Mike and has come up really nicely.
Mike had sanded back the first top coat of Tuscan Red and has since applied a second coat. The depth of paint is now starting to shine through.
The top sill coping timber was removed to reveal significant rot
behind it. The sill beneath was scraped clean of this rot and can be repaired; however it was
discovered that the ends of three roof members that traverse the car and sit in mortises in the sill
have rotted up the end grain to a point where they are no longer structurally engaged with the sill.
This issue will require further investigation with THNSW.

Yesterday saw our volunteers continue work on the platform at Hazelgrove.
The first course of retaining wall rails were laid to the correct height on Saturday with top rails installed yesterday along with the required geofabric, 100mm ag pipe and drainage aggregate. All coming along nicely.

Hazlegrove Station Precinct
During a fortnight of unpleasant and wet weather volunteers laboured to complete stage one of the
platform work at Hazelgrove being the hole drilling, post insertion and concreting of all posts. This was a solid amount of work, and it shows what a group of co-ordinated volunteers can achieve
under a minimal budget.
The engineering plans called for 2400mm long posts. Given that only around 800mm maximum is above ground then there were some pretty deep holes bored with our 500mm auger. We managed well with all but one hole was giving us grief by not playing ball and being off centre. This hole happened to be the very first. We learnt quickly after that. The picnic shelter is also progressing with the roof framing in place and is now ready for roofing and guttering.
