Day one of our African Group’s adventure took us on a full day tour of Soweto, visiting the home of Nelson Mandela and the moving Apartheid Museum.

Soweto is rich in history and culture, and played a pivotal role in South Africa’s journey towards democracy. At Mandela House, we got to see where the world’s most inspirational leader lived complete with bullet holes in the walls. After a local lunch which included a traditional Chakalaka Salad which was delicious … and quite spicy 🌶️ we then finished the day at the Apartheid Museum which gave us a powerful and deeply moving insight into South Africa’s past.

Each year, thousands of humpback whales migrate along Australia’s east coast between their Antarctic feeding grounds and the warmer tropical waters where they breed and give birth. During their southern migration, many make a remarkable detour into the calm, sheltered waters of Hervey Bay where we enjoyed an afternoon watching these gentle giants in their natural environment.
