👷‍♂️🚦 Recognising Experience in Network Operations

UGL Regional Linx is proud to work alongside a panel of professional labour hire partners, including Protech, who provide skilled resources to support both our track work projects and Network Operations team.

Recently, Protech met with their Network Control Officer (NCO) employees based at the Newcastle Network Management Centre (NMC) to discuss their roles and identify any support needed to continue performing their safety-critical duties effectively.

🚆♻️ Connecting Communities Through Sustainable Freight

In July, the UGL Regional Linx Network Operations team visited the Crisps Creek Veolia Terminal on the Joppa Junction–Canberra branch line, alongside our partners at Pacific National and customer Veolia.

Veolia was the first company in Australia to transfer waste by rail, beginning in 2004. Today, two trains per day, five days a week, transport Sydney’s general waste to Crisps Creek. Each 900-metre-long train carries around 58 containers, with each container holding 31 tonnes of waste.

From Crisps Creek, the waste is transported to the Woodlawn Bioreactor Landfill, where a former open-cut mine is being rehabilitated through an innovative waste-to-energy process. The site now:
✅ Generates enough methane-powered green energy for 10,000 homes
✅ Features 23 wind turbines producing energy for a further 30,000 homes
✅ Operates a solar farm supporting on-site energy needs
✅ Powers an on-site Barramundi farm, using heat recovered from green energy engines

This remarkable operation showcases how rail freight can play a vital role in sustainable waste management and renewable energy production.

At UGL Regional Linx, we continue to work closely with our customers and rail operators to deliver effective train planning, support operational efficiency, and identify opportunities for future growth across the Country Regional Network.
