Introducing our little heifer (X175) who arrived at sunset on the 1st of September. She has well and truly dried out and found her feet. The cheekiest little side glances were snapped today.

Welcome to SPRING...... apparently, Cecilia wanted to be the one to calve first. So much for everyone starting to calve down at the end of September 🤦‍♀️
Oh well, a safe and quick arrival of sweet little heifer. We're looking forward to seeing dry and up and about in the morning.

Our cows. Chewing through hay like it is going out of fashion and enjoy every little barely sprout on offer.
They should begin to calve down towards the end of September, early October. We scored 13mm of rain earlier in the week, and the green tinge is appearing. Temperatures are to be 30 plus by the weekend, so the green will burn off just as quickly. We can only cross our fingers that more rain is on the horizon as some weather pages suggest rather than the dreaded El Nino other pages and the BOM suggest.

SOLD.

Not Lowlines, but our dorper/droper cross mob of 8 mixed aged Ewes and Ram (Willis) are looking for a new place to call home.
Lambs and wethers are not for sale.
All ewes have lambed or are in lamb to Willis.
Quiet and easy to handle. Due to the wild dogs around, they are locked up every night. Wormed with Q-Drench in July.
Pic number required. $1200.00 for the lot.
We are changing our direction with sheep and would like to find these girls and boy a new home first.

Today, we delivered the last of our weaner heifers we had for sale. They have gone to a lovely home with some older Lowline cows.

The added extras when buying hay. Not toxic, and stock won't eat because of the smell of the plant, but it can cause injury or death in an animal if the claws get stuck in or around the mouth. Particularly, sheep (Merinos)it is get stuck in the wool on their face.

Cuteness and genetics sometimes just don't cut it. And neither does structural incorrectness. We had said we would castrate this red calf from the day he was born. We did, however, give him a chance as he looked promising and had hoped that our one and only show for 2026 (Gatton) he would have been shown. Although wrist surgery recovery is still ongoing, and it turns out this red calf had structural issues. So, the only prepping he had was the lining up a vet appointment.
Can the issue be picked up by our experienced breeders in the short clip? It is hard to see. But the issue can be seen.
You will need to excuse his bad hair day. His winter coat is not doing him justice in looks.....promise he is Lowline and not Highland.

A few months ago, we castrated the baby bulls. During this castration process, one bull only had one testicle down to remove. The other could not be felt at the time to try and manipulate down for removal. And subsequently forgotten about. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, while walking the weaners back to their paddock, one of the steers began to misbehave. Trying to work out why, as this particular steer was always quiet to work with. It was soon discovered he was not really a steer. His missing testicle had dropped. Explaining why he was beginning to act, not his usual casual self.
Well, today, he, the black one, had a date with the vet. As did the red one. More to come, on of why the decision was made to cut the red one too.
Also, another reason why we use a scalpel to castrate and not band.

Now that the steers have gone, the cows enjoyed their first taste of fodder.....the equivalent of 24 hoover vacuum cleaners....
