YEAR 11 VCE VM PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT ||

As part of Year 11 PDS Unit 2 - Connecting with Community, our students have been welcoming guest speakers, with more sessions to continue through to the end of term.

Students Charlotte Bryce and Ella Hamada recently welcomed guest speaker Adele Chester from the Port of Portland Victoria.

Adele shared valuable insights into regional industry and career pathways, giving the class a deeper appreciation of the connections within our local community and the opportunities available in the region.

🚴‍♀️ The Port of Portland is proud to support the inaugural Queen of the Cobboboonee Women's Cycling Festival, hosted by the Portland Cycling Club on 14 November 2026.

This exciting new event encourages women and girls of all ages and abilities to get involved in cycling, with events ranging from a relaxed 27km social ride through the beautiful Cobboboonee Forest to junior races and a challenging 54km handicap event.

We're committed to supporting initiatives that promote active lifestyles, community connection, and opportunities for people to participate in sport across our region.

We look forward to seeing this fantastic event inspire a new generation of cyclists.

A big thank you to Port of Portland Victoria for supporting Live4Life Glenelg through the FY27 Community Sponsorship Program!

This funding will contribute to training a Teen Mental Health First Aid facilitator, helping equip students across Glenelg with the knowledge and skills to support their own and their peers’ mental health.

FY25 Sponsorship Highlight 🚣

We are proud to support through our FY25 Sponsorship Program the Portland Bay Coastal Rowing Club who have purchased a new trailer for their historic rowing boat.

The trailer is essential to protecting this valued community asset, enabling regular upkeep, and supporting the club's ongoing activities that promote friendship, teamwork, wellbeing, and connection on the water.

We are proud to support initiatives like this that strengthen our community and help keep Portland's maritime heritage thriving.

This information has been provided by DEECA and is being shared by Port of Portland to help keep our community informed. For the latest information on avian influenza (bird flu), please visit agriculture.vic.gov.au/birdflu

An H5N1 bird flu information session will be held in Portland tomorrow (5 August).

The 90-minute opportunity for community to meet will feature biosecurity and wildlife experts from DEECA including Agriculture Victoria.

The session will provide:
- clear, practical information about H5 bird flu and the state’s response
- the latest information and advice for the local area, including what to do if you see sick or dead birds or wildlife
- an opportunity to ask questions, raise local concerns and share information that might help.
