Did you know when you book your barge ticket you do not make a reservation for a time slot? Whether you buy your ticket online or with us here in the office, when you have your ticket you can drive to the barge and jump on the next available.

The best beach driving times are two hours either side of the low tide. Giving you a nice wide beach with plenty of firm sand to drive on. You'll also be able to get around Hook Point at the very south of K'gari.

Our barges operate from 6.00am to 5pm daily - we look forward to welcoming you on board.

Here's some Wongari (dingo) Do's and Dont's thanks to the QPWS website:

🐕 Do keep kids within arm's reach
🐕 Do carry a safety stick
🐕 Do keep your distance from dingoes
🐕 Do dispose of rubbish correctly
🐕 ❌ Don't run
🐕 ❌ Don't be alone
🐕 ❌ Don't feed or interact with dingoes
🐕 ❌ Don't bring food or have picnics on the lake shore or beach

Feeding dingoes including leaving food and food scraps where they can get them, can cause them to become aggressive towards people in search of it. The best you can do is to keep them living wild and appreciate them from a distance!

To drive in the K'gari or Cooloola Recreation Areas you must obtain a vehicle access permit (VAP) before entering. Make sure you have your vehicle registration correct as it is checked by vehicle recognition cameras. Rangers regularly monitor compliance and fines apply for entering without a valid permit. Costs vary depending on the park and length of stay. Mantaray Barge office is an agent for Queensland National Parks and can book both vehicle or camping permits.

Call in and see us at 66 Rainbow Beach Rd - attached to the new Caltex service station. We are open 6am - 4pm Monday to Fridays and 6am to 2pm Saturdays! Barge tickets, permits, snacks and fuel all in one stop 🤘😁

As of 1st August 2026 our barges will be operating the following hours: first barge departing Inskip at 6am. The last barge departs K'gari 5pm. To catch last barge please arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to departure time.

Coongul Creek has long been a favourite destination for campers looking to experience a quieter side of K'gari. Tucked along the island's western coastline it's one of the best places to enjoy spectacular sunsets, calm waters and some fantastic fishing. It's also a great base for exploring the island's remote western beaches and taking in the incredible scenery of the Great Sandy Strait.

Camping sites at Coongul Creek are often among the first to book out - especially during weekends and school holidays. If you're dreaming of waking up here don't leave it until the last minute. Book your camping permit well in advance and lock in your slice of paradise before someone else does!

Some people pay extra for a sunrise cruise... ours just happens to get you to K'gari too! Early mornings on the Manta Ray barge come with front row seats to some pretty spectacular sunrises. The earlier alarm is a little easier to forgive when this is waiting at the boat ramp. Safe travels to everyone going over today - we'll see you onboard!
