An Even Playing Ground
This weekend will mark just the second time ever that the Junior Formula 500βs have raced at the Albany Speedway Club and with all but one of the drivers not having raced at the venue before, it means it sets a pretty even playing field for the seven drivers nominated.
At that show just over two years ago, it was Mikey Green who defeated Chloe Newmarch and Marcus Pages.
Interestingly, Newmarch (along with Dustin Filgate and Nicholas Pages who were also in that field) will be racing in the senior division this weekend, while the only Junior at that meeting that is still in the field again this weekend is Todd Pages (Pages Motorsport)
At that show Todd came home fifth, while this weekend he comes in as third place overall in the series standings. He is just fifty two points shy of the top two, but when you consider he is the only one of the top three who has not yet played his Ace Card, he is certainly in the box seat this weekend.
Coming into the show in red hot form is points leader Max Lang (Max Lang Racing) who now has won the last three Junior Formula 500 feature races in a row. The youngster is relishing the chance to race all around the State and it appears the more laps under his belt the better he drives, so will be hoping to continue that momentum this Saturday night.
Just behind in the standings is Raff Frisina (RF Motorsport), who will be hoping to stem the flow and close the gap to Max. Just twenty-one points are between the duo and with a maximum of 110 racing points on the line, it is still anyoneβs game.
Lauren Hedington (Lauren Hedington Motorsport) and Leah Heeps (Leah Heeps Motorsport) sit fourth and fifth respectively in the standings coming into the Albany show. With just twenty-one points between them also, and each with their Ace Card still in play, this battle is far from over as they claw their way towards a top three position.
Mason Whitehead (Whitehead Racing) and Deegan Wood (Woodys Racing) may be newcomers to the Junior Formula 500 division, but both have been quickly finding their feet, each finding their way onto the podium in recent weeks. Both still have their Ace Cards in play, but with missing rounds earlier in the season they may be unable to catch some of their other counterparts, but that certainly wonβt stop them from trying!
A big thanks to who have come on board to support the Juniors this weekend; your contributions are very much appreciated.
The Albany racetrack is always conducive to great racing and this weekend should be no different. Make sure you get trackside to watch these pocket rockets fly, or alternatively, if you canβt make it, tune in on Clay-Per-View for what promises to be a great show!
