Most refrigerated transport providers run some level of subcontracting. The variables that matter are proportion, consistency, and how visible the arrangement is to the client.

JDT operates 66 owned vehicles. 15% of that fleet is housed on site at Inghams under a dedicated arrangement, with the rest running from our Archerfield hub. We use two known subcontractors for specific surge requirements. Both are vetted, both are consistent, both are disclosed to clients in advance.

The detail that matters: clients know which loads run on JDT equipment and which don't. There's no rotating cast of unfamiliar re**er units on the roster. Service history, driver training records, MTData temperature feeds, and Chain of Responsibility documentation stay with us, accessible during freight movement and afterwards when reviewing how a job ran.

Joe Joseph heads to Bangkok this week.

On Thursday 21 May, our Managing Director joins the panel at Last Mile Leaders, hosted by FarEye at Shangri-La Bangkok.

The topic: The Broken Legacy TMS, and why APAC enterprises are challenged to scale.

It's a conversation worth having. Plenty of cold chain operators across the region still run systems that can't keep pace with what clients expect today: live core temperature data, integrated mass management, and visibility from dispatch through to delivery.

Joe brings 14 years in refrigerated logistics as an operator plus 25 years across FMCG before that. Plenty of perspective on what scales and what breaks.

If you're at the event, come say hello.

Coffee Brigade served 12,703 sandwiches and 13,479 hot drinks to people experiencing homelessness across Brisbane in the first three months of this year.

That's a 20% increase in sandwiches and a 60% increase in hot drinks compared to a typical month in 2025. Two things drove the growth: a second van service expanding their daily reach, and a new focus on supporting young people, including those at The Nest.

Across the quarter, Coffee Brigade maintained 100% shift coverage. Not a day missed.

For a family business in Archerfield, supporting another Brisbane organisation showing up every single day for people who need it means something. Thank you to Billie Murphy and the volunteers who make it happen.

It's Truck Week 2026.

Right now, thousands of refrigerated trailers are crossing Australia. Inside them: the steaks for tonight's dinner, the milk for tomorrow's coffee, the pharmaceuticals arriving at a regional hospital by Friday morning.

Most people will never think about how any of it gets there. We take that as the highest compliment. Invisible logistics means the job was done properly.

To the drivers, loaders, mechanics, schedulers, dispatchers and office crew at JD Transport: thank you. You keep food safe, businesses supplied and Australian households fed, week in, week out, in 40 degree heat and across thousands of kilometres of highway.

And to everyone else in the heavy vehicle, road freight and cold chain industry this week, hats off. Australia runs because you do.

Brisbane winter is mild. That mildness creates a specific operational risk most people miss.

When ambient temperatures drop into the teens overnight, re**er units operate against less thermal load. A unit running below optimal performance, perhaps with a tired compressor or a partially blocked condenser, can hold set point in cool weather and hide its decline. The same unit will fail under summer load.

May is when our Fleet Manager runs the deeper diagnostic checks across the re**er fleet. Performance under load testing. Door seal inspections. Compressor pressure readings against manufacturer spec.

Cold chain reliability through next summer is being built right now, in the workshops, with the tools out.

Today we acknowledge the mums on our team.

Cold chain logistics runs 24/7. The freight does not pause for school holidays, sick days, or sports drop-offs. The mums across our office, our operations team, and our wider business carry both worlds at once, and they do it with a level of organisational discipline most workplaces would do well to study.

JDRT is family-owned. The Joseph family has built this company over 14 years, and the mums who have worked alongside us through that journey have shaped what JDRT is today. We are grateful for every one of them.

Happy Mother's Day from all of the team.

HACCP certification appears on most refrigerated transport tender responses. The certificate frames the operator as compliant with food safety standards. What sits behind that certificate varies enormously between providers.

Genuine HACCP integration touches every part of cold chain operations. Critical control points identified at every stage of the freight journey. Real-time documented monitoring of those control points. Corrective action protocols that drivers can execute without calling for instructions. Annual hazard analysis reviews that update the system as risks shift.

Our HACCP accreditation runs through MTData core probe monitoring, our incident management system, our driver training modules, and the Executive Team RCA process. The certificate is the visible end of an operating system that runs continuously underneath it.

Most logistics directors review their refrigerated transport provider annually. Few do it rigorously.

A proper audit looks beyond on-time delivery percentages and freight spend. It examines temperature compliance data by route and by driver. It reviews incident reports for pattern detection, not just individual event resolution. It tests the provider's contingency response through an actual disruption, not just a conversation about hypothetical scenarios.

It also looks at what is absent from the reporting. Whether near-miss events are being disclosed or filtered out. Whether equipment breakdown data is being shared or minimised. Whether driver churn rates are transparent or opaque.

The transport providers who welcome this level of scrutiny tend to be the ones worth partnering with. Providers who deflect, delay, or dress up the data are telling you something important about how they actually operate.

If your current provider cannot produce this depth of reporting on request, the reason is rarely that the data is unavailable.

Every reliable cold chain operation has an allocator most people outside the business will never meet.

Their job is to match the right vehicle to the right load with the right driver at the right time, every day, with zero margin for error. They are holding pickup schedules, DC delivery windows, driver fatigue hours, vehicle capacity, temperature configurations, and real-time traffic conditions in their head simultaneously. And when something breaks, they have about six minutes to solve it before a ripple effect hits every other load in the network.

At JD Refrigerated Transport, our allocator team is experienced, embedded, and empowered. They make decisions. They do not wait for approvals when a client needs a solution. They know our clients' schedules, our drivers' strengths, and our fleet's capabilities.

Good ex*****on is invisible when it works. It is the first thing clients notice when it does not. We invest in the people who do this work because the entire operation leans on their judgement.

Dairy logistics carries a short shelf life and a tight temperature band, combined with high volume and unforgiving DC windows.

Chilled milk, yoghurt, cream, and cheese categories operate in a 1°C to 4°C band with almost no tolerance for drift and are short shelf products. The commercial impact of temperature variances and DIFOT misuses is measured in reduced ranging, tighter DC scorecard ratings, and supplier pressure that compounds.

We transport for leading dairy producers including Maleny Dairies, moving product from production to DC and retail distribution across South East Queensland daily. Our drivers are trained specifically on dairy handling protocols and the DC relationships those deliveries depend on.

Dairy is one of the most demanding categories in Australian cold chain. The providers who run it well have built the specific capability to do so over years.
