A festival of stories, islands and the sea 🌊

The Island Storytellers Festival returns 3-5 October, bringing writers, storytellers and visitors together across southern Moreton Bay and Minjerribah.

We're proud to support the 2026 festival with our passenger ferry Kurrowera, the designated festival ferry connecting Lamb Island, Coochiemudlo and North Stradbroke Island throughout the weekend.

The Island Storytellers Festival brings together writers, storytellers and visitors for events celebrating stories, nature and the unique character of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.

Planning to travel over the upcoming Ekka public holidays? Here's what you need to know.

The Redlands Ekka public holiday is Monday 10 August and the Brisbane Ekka public holiday is Wednesday 12 August. On these days:

⛴️ Bay Islands Vehicle Ferries will operate as scheduled – no changes to the standard timetable.
🛥️Bay Islands Passenger Ferries will run to a weekday timetable across both days.

Additional SMBI Vehicle Ferry Services

From next week, customers may notice some additional Lakarma vehicle ferry services operating on selected weekdays.

As crew and vessel availability allows, we will progressively introduce additional afternoon services to all islands to provide extra capacity. These services will operate where practical and remain subject to operational requirements.

Applications for our Community Waves Sponsorship Program close this Sunday 9 August.

If you’re part of a local club, school, event, or community initiative on North Stradbroke Island or the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, now is the time to apply for support through our Community Waves Program.

Through this program, we’re proud to support local initiatives like The Lamb Van & NSI Aboriginal and Islanders Housing Co-Op. With a new Community Waves agreement, we're excited to continue supporting them into 2027.

Update: the service has returned to normal with the 2:15pm service departing Redland Bay to all islands.

Due to a medical incident on board, some passenger ferry services are currently delayed while we wait for an ambulance to attend the vessel.

We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as the safety and wellbeing of our passengers remains our highest priority. We will provide further updates here as they become available.

💙 A very special arrival onboard Medicat.

SeaLink team member Josh Atkinson has a story he’ll never forget - welcoming his daughter Zoe into the world aboard Medicat, our marine ambulance serving the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.

While en route to hospital, Zoe made an early arrival and was safely delivered on board.

We recently caught up with Josh to celebrate, sharing a gift from the SeaLink team, and a handcrafted Medicat replica by local legend DJ.

Congratulations to Josh, Tegan and big sister Kayla on your beautiful new arrival.
