Illawarra Railway Enthusiasts

Illawarra Railway Enthusiasts A platform for posting things railways. These days I just have an interest in things rail around the country and the world.

Original page here was my consulting company Illawarra CADD Professionals P/L (ICP) that provided services to the Geomatics and Transportation industries for the GIS, Mapping, CAD design & drafting disciplines. We had many years of experience in providing surveying, CAD design, drafting, GIS and mapping services to a wide variety of clients, in private industry and government. My particular expert

ise was in detail track alignment and earthworks design, special turnout design, civil and drainage works, property identification & management and infrastructure impact assessment. I also had extensive experience in the map production environment including the utilisation of many forms of digital imagery and spatial databases. In association with other providers we used the latest technology and applications to support our engineering design and survey services including the Microstation CAD range. Also collecting photographs of areas where my father worked his engines for the 40 years he spent driving NSW trains from Bathurst.

An interesting view at One Mile Jetty in Carnarvon Western Australia. Looks like one of the local track engineers setting out for an inspection. I reckon there'll be a few reports on the condition of that alignment in regards to gauge, slew, twist, cant, line and level. Could even be a few bits and pieces missing. Thanks to Christina Bonacina for taking this one.

About to head to the official opening of the Bathurst Railway Museum here in town. Barry Purdon features as one of only a handful of living drivers from the days of steam. One whose driving career spanned steam, diesel and electric and engine 3801, the Garrett, Queen's 1954 Pilot, Indian Pacific, the last steam out of Bathurst to Sydney and finally the very first XPT out of Sydney to Bathurst.
