$1300 Fine for Failing Connect the Dots Game

A driver copped a $1300 fine on the M7 in mid-June for one reason only.

His pen line connecting his work period to his rest period wasn't completely joined. Everything else was correct.

His times were logged accurately. His rest was properly recorded.

His fatigue management was compliant. But because a hand drawn line didn't meet at a precise angle, NSW Highway Patrol issued a fine.

This is what happens when enforcement becomes more about the form than the safety. If the authorities are genuinely worried about driver fatigue and road safety, they need to focus on what actually matters.

A disconnected pen line tells you nothing about a driver's fitness for duty or their rest quality. But a perfectly recorded logbook with a cosmetic error apparently makes an excellent revenue raising opportunity.

The driver's legitimate query is impossible to ignore. Why does a minor cosmetic error cost more than a serious driving offence on a car?

Why are truckies being treated like revenue sources instead of professionals trying to do their job?

This is the culture that's emptying our roads of experienced drivers. Not the hard work. Not the long hours.

The constant threat of financial punishment for technical mistakes that have zero safety implications.
