2020 has certainly presented itself with a number of challenges in Australia, from bushfires, floods, shortage of toilet paper and presently the COVID-19 virus.
On top of all this General Motors has decided to desert Australia, pack up and run away. Within a short period of this announcement there was another casualty, a company called Mavin Gig Australia. Mavin rents cars to Rideshare drivers across Australia and allows people the opportunity to have a modern car to help provide an income for their families.
Customers of Mavin have been notified at some point throughout the year their cars need to be returned, often with only two weeks notice. We estimate that there maybe over 2000 drivers and their families directly affected by this in very uncertain times.
On top of this customers have been notified that they must book an appointment one week advance to return their vehicle otherwise they will be charged one weeks rent, remembering that there is a $400 deposit held by Mavin.
Here at DriversUnite Australia we believe this is not good enough! We have contacted Maven a number of times with no response, there has been one simple request....... notify every single driver of the exact date of return for their vehicle. One simple request, that’s it. Surely in today’s tough times they can skip the two weeks notice and be open and transparent about the situation.
Formerly Maven Gig have been one of the best and reliable rental companies with a very good reputation. Clearly they have adopted General Motors attitude of deserting the Australian public, packing up and running away. Yet another example of Australian workers being screwed over by foreign corporations.
Clearly it’s time to look at other options available to us to create pressure and raise awareness of this situation.
