Mickey and Curly discussing tactics, while waiting at Bleasdale Vineyards today.

This is their very first wine tour, and while they were very enthusiastic to start with, they seem to be figuring out that we live life n the slow lane 😂

We are all set up at The Royal Adelaide Show!

Fighting a losing battle against the elements currently, have had the side of the tent open and closed 3 times now, but it’s still great to see so many people out supporting it!

If your here today, we’d love for you to pop in and say hi

Proud mum moment 😍😍😍

Way to go Trudy, so nice to see her in her happy place 🥰

I’m pretty happy to be able to welcome our newest 4 legged team member (and the last for a while, I promise 🤪)……TRUDY!

This beautiful mare comes to us from the lovely Shaye from Carriage of Occasion and has already proven to be a wonderful asset to our team. Trudy has a decent level of experience in the arena and has proven to be a seasoned pro in the forest too! Wind, thunder & kangaroos don’t make her flinch!

Trudy is confident, bold and safe & has already taught a few of our clients a great deal. Shaye has had this mare since she was 2, and there is no doubt she has had outstanding training.

Welcome beautiful Trudy! And thank you Shaye for sharing your girl with us 🙏.

Lauren 😊🐴🌻

We are on the western side, near the western stage, just behind the show rides and across from the dairy hall.

If you are at the show over the next 9 days, please pop in and say hi!

Young Betty….

Shown here laying behind a horse being shod, like the world is her oyster….

An hour after the farrier left today, we found her coughing up bright red blood, seeming to have uncomfortable breathing, and looking decidedly uncomfortable.

Rushed her to the local vet. Ran through a multitude of different scenarios and possible causes, including

*kick from a horse
*eating rat bait
*eating something else bad
*choking on a bit of hoof off cut…

Nothing really fit the symptoms, no signs of trauma, no evidence of her getting into something she shouldn’t, just a very uncomfortable and stressed dog.

X’rays, ultrasounds, blood tests.

X ray showed a really distended stomach. The sedation masked her actual condition, making her seem very lethargic.

Rushed her down to the 24 hour emergency vet at Kent Town, for follow up, expecting the worst.

By the time she was seen there, she had expelled the offensive gas from her stomach, and seemed ok.

All blood tests normal, clotting and platelets fine…. Then we had a complimentary biscuit, which she was very keen to share…

$1800 of vet bills for one afternoon….

Turns out we are now the proud owners of a very pretty, very expensive fart picture in X-ray form 🤔

Will monitor her overnight, but it smells like she is better now…. Have animals they said, it will help relieve your stress they said….

Betty takes her role of yelling at the horses very seriously…. No one paws the ground on her watch 🙄

She also feels she should chase them when they run, regardless of how often she is told off for it (and yes, she does get tied up before they run if I know it’s coming)… which is just scary to watch as she barely misses the flying hooves when they kick at her.

Unfortunately today she didn’t miss the hooves. (Well at least we think that’s what happened to her) I’m currently sitting at the vet, hoping there are no serious injuries 😮‍💨

Many thanks to High Street Vets Strathalbyn for fitting her in so quickly.

What are you doing on Christmas Eve??

Do you have visitors with you for Christmas and want to surprise them with something amazing?

We’ve put on a horse drawn high tea, for one of our cherished regulars, who has rellies coming to stay for the festive period.

What this means, is we have the availability to accept 2 more groups (you get exclusive use of the carriage for up to 6 people)! Wouldn’t that be a novel way to wait for the Jolly old Santa?!?

$150pp for a 1 hour horse drawn carriage tour of Strathalbyn, while indulging in the most delectable high tea.

Quite possibly this is the very best way to spend Christmas Eve ever!!
