Japan has a New UNESCO World Heritage Site!

The Asuka-Fujiwara archaeological sites in Nara Prefecture have officially been inscribed on the
UNESCO World Heritage List, becoming Japan’s 27th cultural World Heritage site overall, including both cultural and natural heritage sites. Dating from the 6th-8th centuries, the collection includes 19 archaeological sites, such as the ruins of the ancient capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara, along with the famous Takamatsuzuka Tomb, celebrated for its beautifully preserved murals.

Recognised for illustrating the birth of Japan’s centralised state, the introduction of Buddhism, and cultural exchanges with China and the Korean Peninsula, the sites offer a fascinating glimpse into the foundations of Japanese history.

Will you be adding Nara to your next Japan itinerary?

A Major Step Forward for Japan’s Maglev Future

Japan’s Linear Chuo Shinkansen (Maglev) project is moving forward, with Shizuoka Prefecture approving the start of construction on 7th July. This milestone allows construction to progress across the full Tokyo-Nagoya route, bringing the next generation of high-speed travel one step closer.

Using advanced magnetic levitation technology, the Linear Chuo Shinkansen is planned to connect Tokyo and Nagoya in approximately 40 minutes, with the future extension to Shin-Osaka expected to reduce the journey from Tokyo to around 67 minutes.

While the opening date is yet to be confirmed, it will create faster, more convenient connections between Japan’s major cities.
