Jack Warwick Boating Encouraging more people into boating and spending more time on the water… Life’s short, make memories! 🛥️ Vessel Consultant at Short Marine, Sydney.

I definitely didn’t grow up around luxury boats.

I grew up on a small property in Cowra, about 4 hours west of Sydney.

But somehow, boats have been a constant throughout my life.

Eventually I found myself racing home from school to jump on the barge with Dad, to eventually building a career around helping other people get out on the water.

Funny how life works out.

This is a little bit of my story, and how I ended up doing what I do today.

Every day I have the same conversation if boat buyers - they want something simple, easy to use, easy to park - low friction boating. But the comments section in my recent post was a mixed bag. What’s your thoughts?

What we see and hear daily when speaking with customers is the way people use boats is changing.

And the numbers tell the same story.

In 2005, around 10,000 cabin boats over 35ft were sold in the US. Last year there were fewer than 1,000.

It’s not because they suddenly became bad boats. They’re still beautifully built, well engineered and incredibly capable. A majority of peoples lifestyle have changed.

Weekends are busier. Kids have sport. Families have commitments. And most boat owners simply don’t have an entire weekend to disappear offshore.

Here in Australia, a Boating Industry Association study found that around 92% of boat owners spend 8 hours or less on the water at a time.

People still want to go boating - they just want to, and need it to fit into their lives.

Easy on. Easy off. Maximum time enjoying the water and home again that afternoon.

Maybe the future of boating isn’t about spending more time onboard.

It’s about making the time we do have count.

Endless brands. New makes and models launching all the time.

So how do you actually know which boat is right for you?

We’ve developed a simple method to help you work that out from day one.

Instead of starting with what looks good or what fits the budget, we work backwards from how you ACTUALLY boat - where you go, who you take, what you do onboard and what matters most to you.

Because the right boat on paper isn’t always the right boat for you.

We sat down with Steve Heese, President of Chris-Craft, for a special episode of the Better Boating Podcast. Link in bio!

Steve has been at the helm of Chris-Craft since 2001, helping lead the revival of one of the most iconic names in boating and restoring a brand whose history stretches all the way back to 1874. Today, Chris-Craft continues to combine its unmistakable heritage and timeless design with modern boatbuilding, engineering and performance.

In this conversation, Sam and I chat with Steve about the story behind Chris-Craft, what it takes to protect and evolve a 150+ year-old brand, the boating industry, building boats people genuinely aspire to own, and where Chris-Craft is heading next.

Steve also shares some of his own story - from growing up on the water in Florida to racing sailing yachts, including competing in the Sydney to Hobart, and ultimately helping transform Chris-Craft into the company it is today.

If you love boats, the marine industry, business, or simply hearing the stories behind iconic brands, this is a great conversation.
