Let go to Ekka someone said - why not - so the plan was in place to take Polly aka Happy Life to Ekka for the Standardbred off the track classes.
He’s a baby at 6 and been with me a year - wow what journey - the good the bad and the ugly. With a whole team of wonderful people behind me today we went to Ekka - in his led class he went up 3 placing from the original line up to finish 5th against much more mature horses - he looked very immature. Then we harnessed up in the absolute pouring rain and wild winds (the arena fence crashed down around him) and in the OTT standardbred turnout in harness he won the class. 5 mins later he was under saddle and finished 4th. It was a good day - everything is wet/dirty/ chucked in as the rain continued and we needed to be off the arena so the jumping horses could start. He was very stressed, noise, moving thing and people everywhere and the torrential rain. But he excelled.
They say it takes a village to raise a child - it takes an army to prepare a horse.
My enduring thanks to Amy for riding his so kindly, my grooms on the ground today Robyn & Michelle, Fiona for being there for me and all her help, Linda for helping tune him, my chiro Brian who comes to my distress calls regularly, farrier Tony, Todd for my new beautiful PH saddle, Tracey for lending me a suitable noseband and for him. The greatest thing was the applause from the grandstand. Thank u
We’re going back Sunday for the harness class to try again.
