SIV this next week !! - PLACES AVAIL!

So, after so many factors over the last few years, and more recently the weather just not playing ball for several planned SkySurf run SIV's, we appear to have nailed a chance to run one this coming week from Tues 25th through to Thurs 27th. Its essentially a 'pop-up' event given the number of times lately that we have had to cancell due to sub par weather forecasts, so no official bookings were taken, just put out to the long list of previous booked parties to see who is available.
Bottom line, we have a core group, but there are 2 or 3 more places available if anyone is keen and able to make it.

While we are very disappointed by the recent run of course cancellations, we absolutely make no apologies for taking a conservative approach, jointly to avoid wasting peoples time if conditions dont let us get onto the lake, and for when conditions may be marginal for course safety, putting pressure on for pushing the envelope.

FREE TOWS, weekend of 18th & 19th of March. [conditions apply :-) ]

As a fundraiser for the Aussie team for the upcoming World Championships, I am setting up to be available to provide tows from Dubbo area next weekend, the 18th and 19th of March, on a donation basis, with all to go towards the pool for assisting towards some of the costs involved in the team of 5 pilots representing Australia.
Camping available at my base also, BBQ sat night.
Several fund raising activities have been planned by the attending pilots to assist with the costs, excluding any crowd funding, to try to offset the reduced contributions (compared to historic) from SAFA due to budget restraints and revised priorities.

Self launcher.
Finally, after starting a project about 4 years ago to build myself a remote control self launcher, I have just finished off getting all the control the way I want it, and to a safety level I'm happy with. A bit of paint and some dressing up still req'd tho.
Great to actually use it, a real sense of achievement to be able to go out to the flats on your own, tow yourself up, enjoy a nice flight, land and hump it back to the vehicle and head home.
Bit of a beast, old technology now, deisel motor with Electo Magnetic Powder clutch to regulate tension, with PLC automated control and telemetry for remote handpice. Industrial grade build, very robust and has capacity to pull up a tandem too :).
Its been a great learning journey in prep for the next generation technology.
Had to really commit to get this one finished off before I get right into the considerably smaller E-Winch version (DC brushless motor battery powered pay out or pull in, remote control) that is well underway.
Was a great late winters day too, 3+ m/s climbs around. Happy couple of hours self isolated exercise

Central Qld Safari Aug 2021 update

A general update to where things are heading in regards to the planned trip to Central Qld in Aug, it is going to happen!

Firstly , I have been very surprised by the level of interest, way in excess of what I was expecting which is great, but there is no way I could accommodate any reasonable %'ge of this number, so I have been working on options to open it up to as many as possible.
Intention is for towing to available for 3 weeks from Aug 9/10 to the end of the month.
Instead of being like my normal 'Safari' style full catered & mobile ops, we will be using a base, or bases, to be camped at and towing from and returning to on a daily basis, making in more like a 'Fly-in". At this stage, Winton is the most likely area as the primary, but yet to be confirmed. Pilots will self cater, and supply their own camping facilities etc (I will have a limited number of swags avail for those desiring/needing, and will have shared cooking facilities avail), or could look for local accom if desired.
Aiming at breaking the 3 weeks into weekly blocks for people to commit too, either 1, 2 or all 3 if desired. I will be managing bookings to try to keep the pilot numbers to a fairly consistent No across each of the 3 weeks for efficiency towing wise. At this stage we will have up to 5 winches available if the committed numbers call for them, planning on managing the pilot to winch ratio to a workable number for pilot satisfaction. Still working on what the weekly cost per pilot will end up being, and what will be included, but will be under $500, probably more like $400.
Retrieves will be in addition, if desired, but with a larger group of pilots I am anticipating their will be the ability to work as a group on a daily basis.
This approach may mean that we can have quiet a group of pilots over the 3 weeks, so should be a great social time too.
FYI, REX flies in and out of Winton on Tues and Thurs from Townsville, about $300 return.

So, if this approach still raises your interest, I need people to start considering which week/s you want to put their name too and let me know so I can continue building a plan.

Central Qld Safari Aug 2021

Pretty obvious that there is a fair bit of interest from many to get away up N this Aug. I have created a list of pilots who have expressed their interest, as comments in previous post, and replied "noted" to each if your on the list.
I will be working on a program in the coming weeks and advise when some more meat on the bones :)
