🌊 TWELVE APOSTLES – IMPORTANT UPDATE

From 16 October 2026, visitors will need to book online if they wish to visit the new Keerray Woorroong Visitor Centre and Twelve Apostles precinct, including parking.

✅ The online booking system is now open
✅ There are no booking fees until April 2027

I must say, the new building looks very impressive and will be a wonderful addition to the Twelve Apostles experience.

🥾Great Ocean Walkers ~ Apollo Bay to 12 Apostles

IMPORTANT – TWELVE APOSTLES PARKING UPDATE 🚘

If you are planning to park your car at the Twelve Apostles before 15 October and won’t be returning to collect it until after 15 October, please be aware that the new boom-gate system will be operating when you return.

✅ There is no parking or entry fee.

If your vehicle enters before the boom gates become active and exits afterwards, your registration number can be added to the whitelist so you can exit normally.

We would also recommend letting the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority know in advance that your vehicle will be left there, particularly if you are completing the Great Ocean Walk over several days.

If your registration hasn’t been added beforehand, parking attendants
will be onsite to assist you and can help you exit once they confirm you are the owner of the vehicle.

🥾 This is particularly important for Great Ocean Walk hikers leaving their vehicle at the Twelve Apostles while completing their walk.

New Twelve Apostles Visitor Centre and Parking Information

The new Twelve Apostles Visitor Centre booking system will open on Monday 5 October 2026, ahead of the Visitor Centre opening to the public on Friday 16 October 2026.

Parking and Vehicle Entry

Entry to the new Visitor Centre car park will be through boom gates using either a booking QR code or number plate recognition. Access instructions will be provided when the parking booking is made.

Parking attendants will be onsite to help visitors when the new centre opens.

There will be two separate vehicle entrances:

* Tour groups arriving by coach or coaster
* Standard passenger vehicles

The new facility will offer increased parking capacity, along with designated passenger drop-off and pick-up areas close to the Visitor Centre building.

Peak Season Hours — Daylight Saving Time (AEDT)

Boom gates: 6:00 am–9:00 pm
Visitor Centre: 8:00 am–8:00 pm

Low Season Hours — Standard Time (AEST)

Boom gates: 7:00 am–6:00 pm
Visitor Centre: 9:00 am–5:00 pm

The things you don’t think of about

Installing a new toilet is something many don’t think twice about 🚽

At Federation Hut, it’s a very different story. Located 1,600m high in Alpine National Park at the base of Mount Feathertop, this remote site has no direct road access - so every piece of material, every tool, and every crew member had to be flown in by helicopter 🚁

Crews worked from a temporary basecamp, carefully timing their work around narrow weather windows to install a purpose-built loo designed for these extreme conditions.

This upgrade builds on years of work from rangers and teams on the ground, who’ve trialled everything from carbon additions (like sawdust and rice husks) to irrigation and rotating pod systems to keep the composting process working.

12 Apostles Car Park – Easter Update

During the Easter period, the car park will be managed by parking attendants. The main parking area in front of the visitor building will be closed to all pick-ups and drop-offs.

Upon arrival, please call your transport provider, and they will direct you to the designated parking area.

Looking ahead, a brand-new visitor centre is coming soon. We are hopeful this will include a dedicated parking and pick-up zone for all Great Ocean Walk (GOW) walkers.
