If you are looking for a little bit of inexpensive history that is great fun and set in the wild beauty of Tasmania’s West Coast, come visit the Wee Georgie Wood Steam Railway in Tullah this weekend April 11-12.
Georgie is a 102 year old steam locomotive that still takes passengers along part of the old Farrell Tramway, winding his way through the lake, mountain and rainforest scenery on a 25 minute, 2km return journey. Our railway also features Romeo, built in Italy in 1925 and Australia’s oldest internal combustion loco that still operates regularly.
We are cheaper, slower, smaller, shorter and less comfortable than our wonderful friends at the West Coast Wilderness Railway, and you don’t get a glass of champagne.
Trains run on demand from 10am to about 230pm from Tullah railway station, which is the first building on the right has you head south entering Tullah. There are two cafes, two pubs and a servo in town, so break your journey along the Murchison Hwy and come say hi!
The WGWSR is entirely volunteer run and all funds raised go towards keeping this famous piece of Tasmanian history in steam. We only run two weekends per month between October and April so opportunities to ride this season are running out fast! We close for annual maintenance through the colder months.
The fare is $12 adults with cheaper child and concession fares, and a family ticket covering 2 adults and up to 4 kids is heavily discounted to $25. Well behaved dogs are welcome too and travel free. No bookings necessary.
