Our October freight market update is live. Asia to Australia rates paused in early October, but ANL rate restorations take effect from 15 October and FTA expects rates to stay elevated for the rest of the year. Global schedule reliability has dropped to 49.9%, and Melbourne's West Swanson terminal is still working through significant landside delays.

Exporters should also note Maersk's new documentation deadline from November.

Typhoons across China have pushed intra-Asia freight rates to their highest level in three years, and carriers on Australian routes have followed with rate restorations for both 1 and 15 September. Australia's 2026-27 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug season starts 1 September.

A few changes to know: Ethyl Formate can now be used for onshore treatment as well as offshore; breakbulk cargo has a tighter 120-hour loading window with no rolled cargo extension; and the Safeguarding Arrangement Scheme has been discontinued.
