Wow, what a photo *courtesy of our CEO Laura - always seeing the beauty in our farm on her visits.

This photo captures the fog settling over the Macquarie River where our hens drinking water comes from.

We have a thorough water treatment system which our Maintenance Manager, Shaun and his team has worked tirelessly on upgrading recently. The river water can change in quality, so it is treated on farm before use to make sure it stays safe and consistent.

Water is first collected and filtered to remove dirt, sediment, and organic matter. It then goes through a disinfection step to reduce any harmful bacteria or microorganisms.

After treatment, the water is stored briefly and then pumped through a closed system directly to the poultry sheds. This helps prevent contamination before the hens drink it.

We regularly check and maintain the system to make sure water quality stays high.

Clean, safe water is important for keeping our hens healthy and performing well every day.

Range Rejuvenation at the Farm: Why it matters for our hens and egg production.

At the farm, we’ve recently undertaken a period of range rejuvenation, a vital process in maintaining the health of both our land and our hens.

Range rejuvenation involves resting, repairing, and revitalising the outdoor pasture areas where our hens roam. Over time, continuous grazing can place pressure on the soil and vegetation, so allowing sections of the range to recover helps restore natural balance, improve ground cover, and encourage fresh, nutrient-rich plant growth.

This work is not just about looking after the land; it directly supports the wellbeing of our hens. A healthy, well-managed range provides a more stimulating and natural environment, encouraging behaviours such as foraging, dust bathing, and exploration. These conditions are important for hen welfare and contribute to calmer, healthier birds.

In turn, healthier hens lead to better and more consistent egg production. When birds have access to high-quality pasture and a well-maintained environment, it supports their overall condition, which is reflected in the quality of the eggs they produce.

Range rejuvenation is an ongoing commitment at the farm, reflecting our focus on sustainability, animal welfare, and responsible farming practices. By investing in the land, we are investing in our hens and ultimately in the quality of the eggs that reach our customers.

From farm to fridge 🥚✨

In the next step of our journey, we’re taking you inside the grading floor to see what happens once the eggs arrive from farm pickup.

First, each egg goes through a careful integrated egg washing system. All loaded eggs are washed, rinsed and dried through a conveyor system. Key controls are closely monitored through this process to ensure that food safety and quality requirements are achieved.

It’s all part of the care that goes into every egg, every day.

From farm to fridge 🥚✨

Once collected from our farm in Longford, our eggs begin their journey across town with one of our trusted local truck drivers, making their way through to our Kings Meadows grading floor.

From there, each egg is carefully unloaded, cleaned, and individually checked before being graded for size and quality. Our team then sorts and packs them with care, preparing fresh cartons ready for delivery.

These eggs go on to support so many across the state—we proudly supply a wide range of businesses including independent grocers, supermarkets, cafés, bakeries, and food service providers right across Tasmania. But it doesn’t stop there.

We’re also proud to donate eggs to a number of local causes and community organisations, helping support those who need it most and giving back to the communities that support us.

From farm to fridge, it’s a journey built on care, quality, and a strong commitment to our local community.

Our next part of the series will take a closer look at what happens on the grading floor, how each egg is carefully processed, sorted, and prepared for delivery.

We’ll also explore how technology has transformed the way we work over time, improving accuracy, efficiency, and consistency while still keeping quality and care at the centre of everything we do.

Stay tuned as we step behind the scenes of the grading process and see just how much has changed and how much remains focused on freshness and quality.

From farm to fridge 🥚🚛

In this part of our Farm to Fridge series, it’s all about the journey.

Once the eggs are collected on farm, our truck drivers step in, carefully loading and transporting them from the sheds to our grading floor. Every trip is handled with care to make sure the eggs arrive safely and stay fresh along the way.

And here’s something a little fun, has anyone ever noticed the egg yolk on our wheels before? 👀 See if you can spot them next time!

It’s a simple step, but an important one in getting quality eggs from our farm to your fridge.

More behind-the-scenes coming soon 👀
