⛽ NRFA MEMBERS – THIS IS WHAT 10.5c/L OFF CAN LOOK LIKE IN THE REAL WORLD

I had a look at diesel prices this morning and the NRFA Shell Card discount is showing just how valuable it can be.

Around Sutton Forest/Pheasants Nest, Shell was showing 256.9c/L, while Ampol was around 259.9c/L. Take the NRFA member discount of 10.5c/L off the Shell price and you are effectively paying around 246.4c/L, about 13.5 cents per litre cheaper than the Ampol price shown.

Around Laverton North/Truganina, Shell was showing 256.8c/L, while Ampol was 262.9c/L. After the NRFA discount, that Shell price comes back to around 246.3c/L, about 16.6 cents per litre cheaper.

For 1,000 litres, that is roughly $135 to $166 staying in your business on a fill, based on these prices.

For owner-drivers and small fleets burning thousands of litres every month, it doesn't take long for these savings to add up.

NRFA members can currently receive 10.5 cents per litre off diesel for the first 12 months, with zero ongoing Shell Card fees.

Safe. Sustainable. Viable. And keeping more money in the operator's business.

Fuel prices shown were taken from the fuel price app this morning and will change by location and time. Shell Card offer subject to terms and conditions.

⛽ **FOUR MONTHS INTO THE FUEL CRISIS — WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED?** 🚛

Over the past four months we’ve seen fuel prices pushed around by war and global uncertainty, government relief at the pump, and the introduction of a CCO to help operators recover rising fuel costs.

Through all of that, one thing has become pretty clear.

As transport operators, there are really only **two things we can control** when fuel prices rise:

**1. Make sure the increased cost of fuel is being recovered in your freight rate.**
If your fuel costs go up, you cannot simply absorb that increase and hope things improve. Your rates need to reflect the real cost of operating the truck.

**2. Buy your fuel at the best price you possibly can.**

We would all love fuel prices to simply come back down.

But hoping for cheaper fuel isn’t a business strategy.

That is why the **NRFA Shell fuel offer of 10.5 cents per litre** has become even more important.

Shell pricing has consistently compared well with the other major fuel brands, and when NRFA members take another **10.5 cents per litre off**, it can make a genuine difference to the cost of running a truck.

For an operator buying thousands of litres every month, **10.5 cents per litre is real money**.

The NRFA can’t control world events. We can’t control the price of oil. And we can’t control what appears on the service station price board tomorrow.

But we can help our members reduce the impact.

**Recover your fuel increases in your rate. Buy fuel as cheaply as possible.**

Right now, the **NRFA 10.5c/L Shell fuel offer** is one of the most practical tools we have to help members do exactly that.

# # 🚛 THE LAW HAS CHANGED. NOW THE INDUSTRY MUST CHANGE.

The new Heavy Vehicle National Law is now in force.

We now have:

⚖️ Primary Duty
📘 The 2026 Master Code
🛡️ Safety Management Systems
✅ Heavy Vehicle Accreditation

But one important piece is still missing.

🚧 **A Minimum Industry Standard — an entry gate requiring transport businesses to demonstrate they are capable of operating safely before they are awarded work.**

Without it, the **lemons market** continues.

Responsible operators invest in safe vehicles, proper maintenance, competent drivers, lawful loading and realistic schedules — yet still compete against businesses cutting corners to win work on price.

❌ Safety should never be a commercial disadvantage.
✅ Capability should be proven before the work is awarded.

The NRFA is asking drivers, owner-drivers, operators, customers and industry organisations to join the fight for a safer and fairer industry.

📎 We have attached our HVNL penalty summary so industry can see the practical information being provided to NRFA members.

📣 **Join the NRFA. Join the conversation. Join the fight.**

**SAFE. SUSTAINABLE. VIABLE.**

⚠️ DON’T ACCEPT LESS — AND DON’T REWARD POOR PLANNING

Drivers and responsible operators should not have to carry every problem created further up the chain.

Do not accept:

🛑 Unsafe trucks
🛑 Impossible schedules
🛑 Rates that only work if the law is bent
🛑 Pressure to drive when unfit
🛑 Loads without reliable weight information
🛑 Unpaid delays treated as the operator’s problem
🛑 Customers shifting every risk onto the driver
🛑 Safety systems that exist only on paper

For too long, the industry has praised people for “making it happen” without asking what they had to sacrifice.

* Time with family.
* Proper rest.
* Vehicle maintenance.
* A lawful load.
* A realistic schedule.
* Their licence and livelihood.

The market for lemons rewards the businesses that cut corners and hides the real value of operators who do the job properly.
Minimum standards should protect the businesses that invest in safe trucks, fit drivers, proper maintenance and lawful operations.

🤝 Expect customers to meet their Primary Duty
🚛 Expect operators to provide safe equipment
📋 Expect work to be planned properly
💰 Expect rates that support legal operation
🗣️ Speak up when the standard is not good enough

Doing the job properly should never be a competitive disadvantage.

Make a stand. Draw a line. Don’t take a chance on a fine. Don’t be part of the market for lemons.

🛑 STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR UNSAFE WORK

“We have always done it this way.”
“The customer needs it there.”
“The driver said they could manage.”
“There is no money in the job.”
“We had to make it happen.”

These are not safety controls. They are excuses used to shift the consequences of poor planning onto the operator and driver.

Commercial pressure does not make an unsafe schedule safe. A cheap rate does not make an overloaded truck legal. A customer deadline does not make a fatigued driver fit to drive.

A driver agreeing to continue does not remove the responsibility of everyone else influencing the task.

🚛 Operators must provide safe vehicles
📦 Loaders must provide safe and legal loads
🕐 Schedulers must allow enough time
🏢 Customers must not create unsafe pressure
🤝 Every business must own the risks it creates

Transport has spent too long fixing everyone else’s problems with unpaid time, personal sacrifice and creative workarounds.
That is how the market for lemons grows.

Poor customers and unsafe operators are rewarded, while responsible businesses are expected to carry the cost.

From 1 August, stop making excuses.

Primary Duty starts before the wheels turn. Plan the job properly and own the risks you create.

Do the job right. Stop making excuses. Don’t take a chance on a fine.
