✈️ A National First Takes Flight in Toowoomba

We’re proud to see Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport at the centre of a major new chapter for Queensland’s aviation and defence industries.
With $12 million in Queensland Government support, US-based Landlocked Aviation is establishing Australia’s first wide-body aircraft paint and refinishing facility at Wellcamp Airport.

Backed by the $180.6 million Sovereign Industry Development Fund, this landmark project will create more than 750 jobs across construction and operations, while delivering new capability right here in regional Queensland.

For Toowoomba and Queensland, this means:

✈️ Building a nationally significant aircraft maintenance hub
🌏 Reducing reliance on overseas providers
👷 Creating local jobs and economic opportunities

A New Chapter for Aviation in Regional Queensland ✈️

We’re proud to be partnering with LandLocked Aviation Services to establish Australia’s first wide-body aircraft paint and refinishing capability at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.

Supported through the Queensland Government’s Sovereign Industry Development Fund, this major project will see some of the world’s largest defence and commercial aircraft serviced, painted and refinished right here in regional Queensland.
This is about more than aircraft; it’s about building sovereign capability, creating skilled local jobs and strengthening the aviation and defence supply chain.

For Toowoomba and Queensland, this means:
✅ A new world-class aircraft refinishing capability delivered onshore
✅ Up to 100 skilled operational jobs in Toowoomba

Over the past six months, the It's a Bloke Thing Mobile PSA Testing Service, delivered in partnership with Heart of Australia, has travelled thousands of kilometres across regional Queensland, bringing vital prostate cancer testing closer to regional men.

At last Friday’s Wagners It’s A Bloke Thing Luncheon, the Toowoomba community once again showed its incredible generosity, helping keep the mobile clinic on the road and reaching more fathers, brothers and mates.

Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport is incredibly proud to host this important annual event and support an initiative making a real difference across regional Queensland.

Boeing leaders, Amy List, vice president and managing director of Boeing Defence Australia, Torbjorn Sjogren, vice president and general manager of Boeing Global Services – Government Services and Paul Watson, director, MQ-28 Production System, recently visited Joe & Neill Wagner at the Wellcamp Aerospace and Defence Precinct to view construction progress on the MQ-28 Final Production Facility.

Boeing selected the Wagner Corporation to build the facility at the Wellcamp Aerospace and Defence Precinct, which is expected to be operational in 2027. Development of the facility will support about 200 construction jobs, and it is expected to create at least 100 highly skilled advanced manufacturing jobs once in production.

What an incredible result from the 2026 Wagners It’s A Bloke Thing Luncheon!

Last Friday, our community came together to raise an extraordinary $3.039 million to support prostate cancer education, care and research, while helping keep the Mobile PSA Testing Program on the road across regional Queensland.
We’re incredibly proud to host this important event at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport each year and to see our community rally behind a cause that makes such a meaningful difference to men and families across the region.

Meet Andrea, one of our screening officers and café attendants at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.
For the past three years, Andrea has helped keep passengers safe while delivering the friendly service that makes travelling through a regional airport special.
Her aviation journey began with an airport role in Dubai, where she discovered a love for the industry. Today, she enjoys meeting new people and being part of the close-knit Wellcamp team.

“During a flight, we help each other across all departments and are proactive in getting things done.”
Andrea’s advice for anyone considering an aviation career is simple: “Love what you do. If you love what you do, you will enjoy your job.”
Looking ahead, she’s excited to see more flights and destinations added at Wellcamp.
