✈️ FACES OF WELLCAMP | MEET JAMIE

Meet Jamie, our Senior Ramp/QantasLink Port Trainer, who has been part of the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport team for almost three years.

For Jamie, working on the ramp involves a lot more than putting bags on and taking them off an aircraft. From daily Ground Service Equipment safety checks and preparing the Baggage Make-up Area to aircraft turnarounds, staff training and maintaining compliance, safety and situational awareness are at the heart of every shift.

With years of aviation experience behind him, one of Jamie’s proudest achievements at Wellcamp has been sharing that knowledge with our Operations and Ramp team and helping set them up for future growth.

And what does he enjoy most about working in aviation? “It’s the only place you can play with aeroplanes! 🛩️”

Jamie’s love of aviation started with his first flight at just nine years old, travelling solo from Mackay to Merimbula via Brisbane and Sydney. After a career overseas, he returned to Australia and found his way back to aviation at Mackay Airport before eventually joining us here at Wellcamp.

When he’s not helping keep things moving on the ramp, Jamie is a window-seat-up-front kind of traveller, prefers winter over summer, mountains over beaches and would happily have Kylie or some “trashy pop” playing as his boarding music. 🎶

As for the future of Wellcamp, Jamie is looking forward to seeing passenger demand grow, more destinations added and new technology continue to make its way to the airport.

Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport hosted the Biosecurity in the Boardroom breakfast yesterday, bringing together business, government and industry leaders to discuss the importance of biosecurity risk management across Queensland.

Hosted by the Queensland Farmers' Federation (QFF) in partnership with Biosecurity Queensland, the event highlighted why biosecurity is not just an agricultural concern, but a critical consideration for businesses across all industries.

Wagner Corporation CEO David Keir delivered the keynote presentation, sharing insights into how Wagner Corporation manages biosecurity risks across its operations, followed by an expert panel discussion with industry leaders.

With agriculture, transport, logistics, resources and other industries closely connected across our region, the message was clear: effective biosecurity management is everyone's responsibility.

It was a pleasure to welcome so many industry leaders to Wellcamp Airport for this important conversation about protecting our regional economy's future.

✈️ LEARNING TAKES FLIGHT AT WELLCAMP
Over the past two weeks, we’ve welcomed four homeschool tour groups to Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport, with around 140 children and parents joining us for a behind-the-scenes look at airport life.

From learning about the history of Wellcamp and following the passenger check-in process, to discovering how baggage screening works and what happens behind the scenes, there was plenty to explore.

The timing of the visits also meant we could show our guests some pretty impressive aircraft currently visiting Wellcamp, including the US Marine Corps MV-22B Ospreys and aerial firefighting aircraft.

To finish the experience, the groups watched a Qantas Dash 8 arrive from Sydney and followed the entire aircraft turnaround — from passengers disembarking and boarding through to watching the aircraft take to the skies again.
Group organiser Carly said the tours gave the children “a fantastic insight into how an airport operates and everything that happens behind the scenes,” with wonderful feedback from families who enjoyed the opportunity to learn in such a unique environment.

A big thank you to Carly, the families who joined us, and our team members Geoff and Kristina for making the tours possible. We loved sharing a little of what happens every day at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport. ✈️

✈️ A UNIQUE SIGHT ON THE WELLCAMP TARMAC!

Aviation enthusiasts may have noticed some impressive aircraft at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport, with US Marine Corps MV-22B Ospreys back in town last week.

These remarkable tiltrotor aircraft combine the vertical take-off and landing capabilities of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft - making them an incredible sight in action.

Wellcamp is proud to support visiting aircraft and aviation operations right here in regional Queensland.
