Recognising 10 years of service from John Bowden!

John joined De Bruyn’s Transport 10 years ago when the company took over the acid cartage work from Ixom, where he had already spent 14 years working.

Since coming across to De Bruyn’s, he has continued specialising in acid cartage out of Heybridge, delivering statewide to locations ranging from the West Coast through to Dover and plenty of places in between.

With many years of experience in this specialised area of transport, he has built a strong knowledge of the work and is known for being reliable, hardworking and honest in everything he does.

Outside of work, he enjoys building radio-controlled model planes and getting out to fly them.

We thank John for his hard work, reliability and contribution over the past decade.

Celebrating Our People 👏

Today was a special day for the wider De Bruyn’s Transport team, as we held our first Bass Strait Transport Honours Day.

Since taking ownership of Bass Strait Transport in 2019, we’ve been proud to continue building on the history and foundations established by the people who have been part of the business for many years.

We felt it was important to recognise those who have reached 10+ years of service, acknowledging their full history and contribution over that time.

A business is shaped by the people who turn up year after year, and we’re proud to have so much experience, loyalty and knowledge across our team.

Congratulations to all five recognised today on a great achievement!

Throwing it back to Unit 15. 🚛

Here's Unit 15, a DAF 2500 that joined the fleet brand new in 1990.

For many years, Unit 15 was a reliable part of the fleet, spending most of its working life carting bins across Tasmania and becoming a familiar sight on the road.

After it was retired from service, John had plans to restore the truck and give it a new lease on life. Sadly, the 2016 floods had other ideas, and Unit 15 was damaged beyond repair, eventually ending up as scrap steel.

While the truck may be gone, it's still remembered as an important part of De Bruyn's Transport's history.

A little late with the news, but a great addition to our Devonport depot.

Our Omega 42E DCH joined the fleet back in March and has been busy ever since. Equipment like this plays an important role behind the scenes, helping our team handle freight efficiently and keep things moving through the depot each day.

Another investment in supporting our people and operations across Tasmania.

Recognising 10 years of service from Dave Fidler!

Dave joined De Bruyn’s Transport in 2016, starting out on shift work in our aquaculture operations under Adam Reynolds. After a couple of months, he moved across to shift work on the general freight side of the business, where he spent the next two years.

Dave then spent a couple of years working in the yard before stepping into the role of Team Manager for our local freight operations. After two years, he moved into his current role as Team Manager for Linehaul and Bass Strait Transport freight, a position he has now held for six years.

Dave’s journey over the past decade has seen him gain experience across many different areas of the business, from driving and yard operations through to managing key parts of our freight operations.

Outside of work, Dave is a passionate Collingwood supporter and is heavily involved in his local community. He is the State President of Karting Tasmania and also serves as a local councillor.

We thank Dave for his commitment, leadership and contribution over the past 10 years. Congratulations, Dave, on reaching this milestone with De Bruyn’s Transport!

There are a few familiar faces who are still part of the team today, along with many people who have contributed to De Bruyn’s over the years and helped shape who we are today.

Congratulations to Darren Richardson on reaching his 15-year milestone at De Bruyn’s Transport!

Darren joined the company in 2011, starting out on shift work in our aquaculture operations under Adam Reynolds. He spent his first couple of years doing HC work before moving across to shift work on the general freight side of the business.

During this time, Darren gained his MC licence and was involved in a range of work, including Bass Strait Transport freight and overnight runs to Launceston and Hobart. After around three years, he moved onto permanent day shift, carting bulk cement for a couple of years.

Darren then stepped out of the truck and into the office, spending three years working in a front office administration role. After returning to driving for a brief period, Darren moved into his current role as Driver Trainer, where he now plays an important part in training and developing drivers across the company.

Since becoming Driver Trainer, Darren has completed his Certificate III in Work Health and Safety and Certificate IV in Driver Training and Assessing. More recently, he became a qualified Driving Licence Assessor through the Tasmanian Transport Association and De Bruyn’s Transport and is now involved in the Drive Train program.
Outside of work, Darren is a passionate Hawthorn supporter and enjoys fishing, motorbikes and camping. He is also involved in local football, coaching at Turners Beach.

Darren’s journey over the past 15 years shows his versatility and willingness to take on new challenges, from driving and administration through to training the next generation of drivers. We thank Darren for his commitment and contribution to the company.
