Seriously considered turning around coming into Adelaide! Rain, hail, wind, we had it all!
Despite that we had a lovely short stay with our adopted family in Adelaide before continuing home today, with a stop in Mount Gambier to book the car in for its 10,000km service and to watch the race 🏇 Even had a little win!
When we arrived home we were greeted with a rainbow out across the paddock too🌈❤️
Thankyou to everyone who followed along - hope you’ve enjoyed the photos along the way and sharing some of the memories with us 🥰

Via Coober Pedy - what an interesting town!
Today we travelled to Wirraminna Station, where Dad used to work nearly 40 years ago! We met the current station managers, who showed us around and Dad got to reminisce a little. The previous owners ran sheep while dad was working there, but they currently have about 1200 head of cattle.
Not long left of the trip now, next stop Adelaide then probably home!

We had a pretty spectacular helicopter flight over Uluṟu and Kata Tjuta this morning 🚁 The forecast of potential storms hit us earlier during the night, and the clouds cleared to a blue sky and sunshine just for our flight. Dad got a front row seat and was named co-pilot for the flight, much to his delight! We were lucky enough to see some water falling down the rock as we flew around it before heading towards Kata Tjuta. An amazing way to see both, they’re so different from the air!
We then packed up and headed back for the Stuart, making it into South Australia and stopping in Marla for the night. A very nice park here, 24 hour fuel and store, as well as a bar and restaurant.

Very very early start this morning, but very very worth it!
We were on the bus at 4:15AM, heading to Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku (Field of Light). When Mum and Dad were thinking about this trip, I said to Mum if they come back down through the middle I’m tagging along and we’re doing this ✨ It was more beautiful than I could have imagined and I have no doubt she was enjoying it from above 🤍
At the foreground of Uluṟu, 50,000 little swaying spheres of light in the wind, changing colours with the rising sun - amazing 😍 I’d originally planned for us to do a night time tour, but this sunrise was unbelievable.
We then took the bikes and rode around the base of Uluṟu. With a bit of wind and slight drizzle it was actually perfect for a bike ride!
Just incredible to see how big it really is, and to see up close all the crevasses - it’s deceiving from a distance how much it looks like a smooth dome.
After a post ride cuppa and pie, we headed back to camp, went for a wander and learnt about bush tucker and how to make wattleseed shortbread, before a look through the Gallery of Central Australia. Then it was nap time! And we finished the day with a DIY BBQ dinner at the Outback Pioneer Hotel.

Oh the suspense! Turning every corner and driving over every crest eagerly anticipating that first sight! We were both very excited to see Uluṟu for the first time 😍 Dad claims he saw it first, I’ll just let him think that he did!
After settling in, we went for a cruise to watch the sunset… Magical ✨
We first stopped at the sunset viewing area, even in the few minutes we were there we saw the colours on the rock change. But I don’t believe it’s a sunset without actually watching the sun set (the sun sets behind you at this spot). So, my little ‘pro’ tip for the trip - if you’re visiting Uluṟu in the future, continue around to watch the sunset from the sunrise viewing area. Amazing view of Uluṟu, with Kata Tjuta in the distance, and the beautiful golden glow to the left.
Early-ish to bed for us tonight, alarms are set for 3:15AM, ready for our sunrise adventure to the Field of Light 🤩

Via Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles), Davenport & Ti Tree.
We headed off early to try beat the heat for a walk around Karlu Karlu. So cool driving in and seeing these big granite boulders scattered all over - some split in half and others balancing on top, looking like they were supported by not much at all! Dad was only keen for the short walks so I went for a run around the 4km trail - I was disappointed when I got back to the car and saw it was only 32°, it felt like it was about 52°!
From there we continued south towards Alice, stopping again at Aileron, and had a look at the Anmatjere Man, Woman & Child - very impressive sculptures.
We settled in for camp at the Gday Mate caravan park, before checking out the start of the sunset from Anzac Hill. There’s a brewery conveniently located next to the caravan park so we popped over for pizza and sampled a few of the beers 🍻 Wish we could stay longer here, I’m really liking it!

Not much to report for the day - just the hottest temp we’ve had so far when we cruised into TC - 42°C!! 😅 Safe to say the afternoon was spent between the air con and by the pool!

Another change of plans to accomodate a change of schedule for Uluṟu so we pushed through to Daly Waters today.
We stopped and had a swim at Mataranka on the way (soooo bats and they stunk! 🦇)
Then continued on to Daly Waters for a beef and barra feed at the pub. It’s certainly an interesting pub, I’m sure a lot more lively during the dry season!

A very cruisy start to our day today. We went to the Humpty Doo Pub for lunch, before heading to the Spectacular Jumping Croc cruise. Pretty incredible to see the wild crocs so close to the boat 🐊 Our first trip up the Adelaide River wasn’t so spectacular though (not one croc wanted to jump), so we jumped on the next cruise as well, which was much more entertaining! We even saw a wee little one, probably about 1yo - very cute!
We then headed in to the Mindel Sunset Markets, watched the sun set over the beach and treated ourselves to a massage! The sea breeze was very welcome too!

Barra or Blue Fishing Charter 🎣
A very enjoyable day out from Dundee Beach on the Finnis River - Dad was pretty proud of his girl when she caught her first Barra (and the group’s first for the day!).
We had some good catches early, including Threadfin Salmon, and I lost a bloody big one - we’re calling him the ‘Million Dollar Metrey’. I didn’t live that down for the rest of the day! The quick hits at the beginning were short lived though, the wind had other ideas for our day.
We smashed through the swell coming back in and then stopped in at Freshwater Finnis to try our luck there too. Was a very relaxing end to the day. Dad got our only real catch in there, until he jumped off just as he was getting to the boat. Cheeky bu**er!
Pretty cool to see some wild crocs out there too! 🐊

We’ve made it to Darwin! We had a cruisy start to the day, with a pit stop at Adelaide River Inn so Dad could have a go at hypnotising Charlie the buffalo, from Crocodile Dundee 🤙🏼
We headed in to the Darwin Waterfront for dinner at Oyster Bar - treated ourselves to some Coffin Bay oysters, and a fresh feed of barramundi, as well as our first taste of crocodile (in the form of Popcorn Crocodile! 🐊 - a bit like a combination of chicken and chewy squid).
Headed back to camp ready for an early start for our fishing charter in the morning 🐟
