CBM (Cubic Meter)
A Small Calculation That Makes a Big Difference in International Logistics
At JMH Logistics Ltd., we believe efficient logistics begins with accurate cargo planning. One of the most important measurements in international freight forwarding is CBM (Cubic Meter).
📐 CBM Formula
If dimensions are in metres:
CBM = Length × Width × Height
If dimensions are in centimetres:
CBM = (Length × Width × Height) ÷ 1,000,000
📦 Example
Carton Size: 60 × 40 × 50 cm
CBM = (60 × 40 × 50) ÷ 1,000,000 = 0.12 m³
🚢 Why is CBM Important?
✔ Calculates cargo volume accurately
✔ Helps estimate Ocean & Air Freight costs
✔ Maximizes container utilization
✔ Essential for LCL (Less than Container Load) shipments
✔ Improves shipment planning and warehouse management
✔ Prevents unexpected freight charges
✈️ Volumetric Weight Formula
Air Freight
Volumetric Weight (kg) = (L × W × H in cm) ÷ 6000
Courier / Express
Volumetric Weight (kg) = (L × W × H in cm) ÷ 5000
📌 Freight charges are generally based on the higher of the Actual Weight or Volumetric Weight.
