The Yellowstone schedule:

Wake up early.

Drive.

Stop for wildlife.

Drive.

Stop because the scenery is ridiculous.

Drive.

“WAIT—IS THAT A BISON?”

Drive.

Take 900 photos.

Drive.

Watch the sunset.

Collapse at the hotel.

Repeat. 😂

And honestly? I wouldn’t have wanted to spend the week any other way.

Yellowstone is one of those places where the drive itself becomes part of the experience.

I could photograph wildlife all day.

There is something completely different about seeing an animal in its natural environment—without a fence, exhibit, or guarantee that it’s going to cooperate for the camera.

Some sightings lasted seconds.

Others gave us time to sit and watch.

And some were so far away that the zoom lens was doing A LOT of work. 😂

But that’s part of wildlife photography.

You don’t control the subject. You wait.

And when the moment happens, it’s worth it.

Me: “I really hope we see some wildlife in Yellowstone.”

Yellowstone: *Oh, you mean ALL of it?* 😂

🐻 Grizzly bear

Obviously wildlife sightings are never guaranteed—and that’s part of what makes seeing them in the wild so special.

Every time we spotted something, I felt like a kid yelling, “STOP THE CAR!” 😂

One of the things I love about traveling for work is that I get to experience destinations the way my clients will.

On my Yellowstone trip, I stayed in several different hotels—and I wasn’t just checking out the beds. 😂

I was paying attention to:

🚗 Parking & accessibility
🛏️ Room setup
☕ Amenities
📍 Convenience for exploring Yellowstone
✨ Overall atmosphere

Because when someone asks me, “Where should I stay in Yellowstone?” I don’t want to just send them a list of hotels I found online.

I want to know what the experience is actually like.

I’m going to break down the individual hotels in future posts, because they definitely aren’t interchangeable.

There are places you visit for the views.

And then there are places where the wildlife is part of the scenery.

Yellowstone was definitely the second kind for me. 🦬🐻🦌

I spent the week watching bison wander across roads, elk grazing in the distance, pronghorn moving across the landscape, deer appearing out of nowhere—and somehow even got to see a grizzly.

And that’s before you even get to the mountains, rivers, waterfalls, and geothermal landscapes.

Yellowstone really does feel like one giant reminder that we’re visitors in their world.

2 hour ride in the mountains with my boy, Hoot 🦉 🐎 I went in the hot springs after but was still sore for like 3 days 😂
We rode all the way to a film set where they film a lot of music videos and car commercials and movies like Unholy Trinity and The Old Way. The church is built with a steel base so they can burn it down in the films and build it back up for the next one!

American safari day 3 was supposed to be for wild mustangs ✅ bighorn sheep ✅ and black bear ❌
I guess 2/3 ain’t bad plus I saw some pigs 🐖 that were def someone’s pets but they were in the wild animal nature area lol the one pig is black so maybe we can just pretend it’s a bear

2nd day of my American safari (which was actually my 6th day of the trip) I decided I wasn’t having enough luck finding the animals on my own so I got a guide. On our way out to the park I saw a coyote! But it was running and we were driving so I didn’t get a pic. Then in the park we finally found a bear but it was so foggy she just looks like a blob. We also saw a few more bison (but nothing like the first day. We probably saw less than a dozen!), a herd of elk, lots of mule deer and pronghorn (not pictured). We went to prismatic and old faithful and on the way back the fog had cleared and Jam the bear (raspberry’s daughter) was still there digging for worms! No moose or wolf but at least I saw a bear!
