Perishable cargo can arrive on time and still arrive with less value. 🍓
When a product has a limited commercial life, the clock doesn't stop when the aircraft lands.
Shippers choose air freight partly because time matters. For perishables, that time can mean more remaining shelf life, a longer distribution window and more opportunity to sell the product at the quality the market expects.
Ground handling shouldn't give that advantage back.
A fast aircraft breakdown means little if the cargo then sits waiting for release or onward transportation. Equally, rapid warehouse processing cannot recover time already lost during transfer.
The dwell hasn't disappeared. It has simply moved somewhere else in the chain.
That's why effective perishable handling isn't about making one stage as fast as possible. It is about maintaining the conditions the product requires while coordinating the complete ground flow to minimise unnecessary exposure and waiting time.
And those requirements aren't identical.
Flowers, fruit, vegetables and seafood can have very different sensitivities. Understanding what the product needs, where time can be lost and how each stage connects to the next is what turns speed into effective handling.
At Challenge Handling in Liège, our operation combines specialised perishable-handling expertise with temperature-controlled infrastructure and direct access between airside operations and the handling facility, helping sensitive cargo move efficiently towards its next destination.*
Because for perishables, good handling isn't measured only by how quickly cargo leaves the airport.
It's measured by how much product life and commercial opportunity are left when it does.
