SlowTours.BG with Ekaterina Gastro and wine tours in Bulgaria Why SlowTours. BG? Our concept of slow travel is the exact opposite of the "busy life" concept.

Local communities, their traditions, history, local culture, and nature can also be represented through food and the people who produce it. Our tours offer not only tastings of good, clean, and fairly produced food and drinks, but also make the journey back to the Bulgarian village an experience in search of identity and forgotten traditions. We want you to relax and enjoy your life and the people

Discover a different side of Bulgarian wine culture — where science, terroir, and craftsmanship meet just outside Plovdiv.

We are proud to present “Terroir near Plovdiv: University Wine & Artisan Cheeses” — a refined wine and cheese experience developed in collaboration between SlowTours.BG с Екатерина and WineTours.bg - Wine tours in Bulgaria.

This journey takes you to the only university winery in Bulgaria — the experimental micro-vinification cellar of the Agrarian University – Plovdiv.

🍇 A vineyard like no other
Surrounded by university vineyards preserving more than 400 grape varieties, this is one of Europe’s richest grape genetic collections gathered in one place. Established in 1969, the winery is the only experimental university cellar in Bulgaria and one of just 28 university wineries worldwide.

Thirteen meters underground, ideal natural conditions create the perfect environment for fermentation and ageing. Above ground, you will discover a working laboratory for wine analysis, a modern tasting room overlooking the vineyards and the Rhodope Mountains, and a small museum telling the story of more than five decades of academic winemaking.

🍷 The tasting
The highlight of the visit is a guided tasting of five carefully selected university wines. You will learn about grape varieties, terroir expression, production techniques, and the scientific research behind each glass. This is not simply a tasting — it is insight into the future and preservation of Bulgarian wine.

🧀 The gourmet extension
The experience continues with a visit to the home of a local artisan cheesemaker. Here, you will taste five handcrafted Bulgarian cheeses and meet the producer behind them. It is a genuine encounter that connects academic wine knowledge with living rural traditions and authentic flavors.

✨ This tour is designed for travelers who seek depth, authenticity, and meaningful encounters — not just sightseeing, but understanding.

Available Monday to Friday, with advance reservation required.

If you are looking to explore Bulgarian terroir in a way few visitors ever do, this is your invitation.

PloWine – The Journey

City, Civilizations & Wine – A Journey Through the Millennia

PloWine – The Journey is a curated city walking tour by SlowTours.BG that reveals the deep connection between Plovdiv’s history and its wine culture.

The walk begins along Main Street, above ancient Philippopolis, and continues to the Roman Stadium of Philippopolis, the Old Town, and the Dzhumaya Mosque — uncovering the city’s Thracian, Roman, and Ottoman heritage. 🏛️

A visit to the Regional Archaeological Museum includes a focused presentation on wine through the centuries — from ancient Thrace and the cult of Dionysus to Roman trade and early Christian symbolism.

The experience concludes with a refined three-stage wine tasting in an elegant setting 🍷, creating a natural bridge between ancient traditions and contemporary regional winemaking.
A tour for true connoisseurs — of history, culture, and wine.
